Director, Risk: Card Partnerships

As a Director of Risk Management in Capital One's Card Risk team you will be responsible for working with the Partnerships Business Unit and other teams in both the first and second lines of defense to identify and consult on potential risks to Capital One, applying your risk or process management and analytical skills to help Partnerships continue to drive well-managed risk activities to support growth. Risk Management Directors at Capital One are highly motivated risk and process management professionals with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. These skills allow the Director to gain insights, and act as a change agent to influence their business partners. A successful risk and process manager operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, laws, regulations, processes and associated controls, and good risk management practices. They are forward thinking and quick to adapt.

Card Risk Directors have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to work with executives to create and implement innovative solutions to appropriately manage risks within USCard.

The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated risk or process management professional with excellent process improvement and communication skills. The candidate will be detail-oriented and results focused, and will have a proven record of problem solving and collaborating with others, including direct and indirect leadership positions.

Responsibilities:

  • Drives and coordinates work related to overall Card Risk office efforts by working with the Partnerships Business Unit and with the second line of defense risk management teams.

  • Helps to enhance risk identification and assessment processes across Capital One by providing thought leadership, oversight, and coordination with other risk management activities across the company.

  • Supports interactions with Internal Audit and Regulatory agencies related to our work, as applicable.

  • Analyzes information to proactively identify risks, trends, and process improvements; supports reporting on risk topics to management.

  • Stays current on the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to our efforts.

  • Assists and drives project and program delivery, including project and process management, reporting, facilitation of senior leadership meetings, drafting and reviewing materials for senior management and other governance activities.

  • Participates in risk and other management forums and contributes to continuous improvement of risk and project / program management practices.

  • Sets direction, manages expectations, and may lead cross-functional teams through various initiatives, including oversight of third party resources.

  • Participate in and execute other special projects for the team on a periodic basis

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience working in risk management or financial services

  • At least 5 years of program management experience

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients

  • At least 5 years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree

  • 8+ years of financial services risk management experience

  • 7+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk

  • 5+ years of Corporate Management Consulting experience

  • 3+ years experience in Agile or design thinking

  • 3+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data

  • Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $200,100 - $228,400 for Director, Risk Management Richmond, VA: $181,800 - $207,500 for Director, Risk Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
