Lead Central Sterile Tech

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the CSR Supervisor coordinates routine operational activities of the Central Sterile and Reprocessing Department in order to provide sterile medical and surgical supplies and medical equipment to Operating Room Nursing Units and other medical and surgical treatment departments of the hospital.

Responsibilities:
Cleans inspects assembles labels and sterilizes instruments surgical linens and supplies. Directs CSR Technicians to ensure proper sterile techniques and procedures are followed. Orients and trains new employees.

Plans and implements evening processing schedule of surgical instruments linens and equipment coordinates cleaning maintenance assembling sterilization and distribution of instrumentation and Internal Association of Operating Room Nurse guidelines.

Maintains accurate supply of inventory acts as liaison with customer departments to resolve problems or complaints. Retrieve used supplies from hospital departments in accordance with established schedule for reprocessing and storage. Disassembles cleans and reassembles medical equipment and surgical instruments trays. Transports all medical equipment for repairs to Bio-Medical Engineering Department.

Maintains a safe secure and aseptically clean operating environment including procedure to follow in the event of Ethylene Oxide Ventilation Alarm activation. Operates routine ethylene oxide monitoring devices. Trains technicians in appropriate decontamination procedures according to established departmental and infection control policies and procedures.

Adheres to all hospital policies procedures and regulations. Reports all violations of sterile infectious diseases and safety policies by departments to the CSR Supervisor. Ensures safe operation of all equipment.

Maintains evening productivity are records for CSR.

Maintains Quality Assurance. Safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Performs other related duties as required. Work shifts days and on-call duty as assigned.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

High school graduate or equivalent. Knowledge of the principles of medical and surgical aseptic techniques required. Certification by the International Association of Central Service and Material Management (IAHCSMM) required. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and Case Cart system.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in a Central Service Department or related field. Ability to push heavy carts and lift heavy objects required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual and manual dexterity to operate automatic washers and sterilization equipment according to equipment operating instructions. Physical ability to stand for long periods of time lift and carry moderately heavy trays push carts into sterilization unit and receive and store supplies materials and equipment. Organizational and numerical ability to receive count and store materials and to prepare and maintain case carts and required documentation. Ability to follow precise written instructions for decontamination cleaning sterilization and case caret preparation procedures

Working environment exposes incumbent to heat and cleaning chemicals. Any potential hazard is minimized by adherence to safety procedures and the use of protective clothing and equipment

SUPERVISORY ACTION:

Functions in a lead capacity to 6.0 full-time equivalent evening CSR Technicians. Responsibilities include assigning work and providing occasional direction guidance and explanation.

Assumes responsibility for the department during the evening hours.
