IFF is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to work in the Advanced Analytical Biosciences group located at the Wilmington, Delaware site. The successful candidate will be part of the LC-MS group developing primarily HPLC and LC-MS based bioanalytical methods to support various business problems and research programs.
In this role, close collaboration with scientists of multiple disciplines - chemists, biochemists, micro- and molecular biologists, and fermentation engineers is expected. The successful candidate should be adaptive, self-motivated, with a passion for science, and thriving in a team environment.
The position will be located at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. Please note that this position is 100% laboratory based.
Responsibilities:
- Performs sample preparations including organic solvent extractions, dilutions, and filtrations prior to instrument analysis.
- Troubleshoots instrument problems and performs general system maintenance, and prepares analytical standards for various projects
- Conducts research with guidance from experienced R&D leader or technical team leader.
- Use computer systems and software programs - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), data acquisition programs - to acquire and document results
- Effectively collaborates with colleagues on laboratory techniques, sample preparation, instrumentation, data analysis, documentation, and safety
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a scientific discipline (chemistry, biochemistry, forensic chemistry) with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years experience.
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience with HPLC sample preparation and analysis
- Familiarity with Thermo instrumentation and software (Chromeleon) is preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and protocols for safe handling and the disposal of hazardous agents/reagents, chemicals and materials
- Has intermediate knowledge of commonly used chemistry concepts, practices, procedures, and regulations
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate technical information, both oral and written to others, including co-workers, supervisors, and vendors
- Competence in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, and Excel for data manipulation
- Excellent teamwork ability to contribute to multi-technique solutions to complex problems
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and changing priorities
