The Student Success Coach plays a vital role in supporting students' academic, personal, and professional growth. This position is responsible for providing one-on-one coaching, developing personalized success plans, and connecting students with resources to help them overcome challenges and achieve their educational goals. The coach fosters a supportive environment that promotes student engagement, motivation, and self-efficacy.

This position reports directly to the Director of Student Success.

Essential Duties

Student Coaching & Support

  • Provide individualized academic success coaching to students to enhance time management, study skills, goal setting, and self-advocacy.
  • Meet with students regularly to assess progress, address challenges, and develop action plans for success.
  • Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and utilize campus resources effectively.

Monitoring & Intervention

  • Identify students who may be at risk of academic difficulty through early alerts and faculty referrals.
  • Develop intervention strategies to assist struggling students, including study plans and accountability check-ins.
  • Track student progress and maintain detailed records of coaching sessions.

Collaboration & Campus Engagement

  • Partner with faculty, advisors, and student services staff to provide holistic student support.
  • Refer students to tutoring, counseling, disability services, and other campus resources as needed.
  • Facilitate workshops, summer bootcamps, and group coaching sessions on academic success strategies.

Program Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the development of academic/student success initiatives and retention strategies.
  • Analyze student success data to assess program effectiveness and make improvements.
  • Stay updated on best practices in academic/student success coaching and student support services.
  • Meets with students to discuss academic concerns such as time management, study skills, test-taking, etc.
  • Maintains Success email box and corresponds with students as needed
  • Makes appropriate service and resource referrals including Disability Resource Center, Career Pathways, Veterans Resources, Student Success Center, Counseling and Wellness Center etc.
  • Participates in educational/professional opportunities provided for staff to facilitate continued learning of best practices
  • Performs other duties related to the position as required or directed

Rate of Pay $19.76 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs.
  • Knowledge of campus and community resources.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs.
  • Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate into recommendations.
  • Ability to compile information into report form.

The work environment typically consists of a professional office setting with a moderate noise level, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff. Infrequently, exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working in academic support, coaching, advising, or a similar student-focused role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students.
  • Knowledge of learning strategies, student development theories, and academic success programs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations and campus stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems, Microsoft Office, and virtual communication tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, student retention programs, or academic coaching.
  • Training or certification in academic coaching or student success methodologies.
