YOUR ROLE: As a Tax Accountant at Promega, you will be an integral part of our finance and accounting team, applying your expertise to manage compliance, reporting, and tax strategy implementation. Your contributions will include preparing tax calculations, ensuring accurate reporting, and assisting with audits and tax research. Your attention to detail and problem-solving skills will be essential in maintaining compliance and supporting business operations. This role offers the opportunity to work across multiple tax areas, providing a well-rounded experience in corporate taxation while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive efficiency and financial integrity.

JOB OBJECTIVE: Serve as a valuable and versatile contributor to Promega's finance and accounting team by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international tax laws and regulations, enhancing financial reporting accuracy, and contributing to a strong internal control environment. This role supports Promega's mission by ensuring effective tax strategies and fostering financial integrity across the organization.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Income Tax Responsibilities:

* Calculate extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments and make payments to proper taxing jurisdictions.
* Calculate ASC 740 tax provision and supporting schedules and utilize Corptax provision software for the year-end Financial Statements audit.
* Generate, review, and reconcile tax depreciation reports using BNA Fixed Asset software.
* Prepare tax return workpapers and review federal and state income tax forms prepared by outside service provider.
* Understand and implement tax law changes, where applicable.
* Assist in the calculation of GILTI inclusion, Foreign Tax Credits, and FDII deduction, with guidance from the International Tax Manager.
* Assist in the calculation and preparation of the required documentation for the Research and Development Income Tax Credit.
* Calculate other applicable tax credits.
* Conduct tax research, as needed.
* Reconcile the monthly and quarterly income tax accounts.
* Receive and respond to notices from various taxing jurisdictions.
* Assist in Federal and State income tax audits and other projects as they arise.
* Prepare supporting calculations to complete U.S. Forms 8858 and 5471 for international entities.
* Assist the International Tax Manager with preparation of U.S. international reporting obligations such as BEAT and Country by Country Reporting requirements.

2. Sales and Use Tax Responsibilities:

* Assist the outsourcing of the sales and use tax function by preparing sales tax information for outside service providers, including review of the prepared returns.
* Assist in review of various state customer & vendor exemption certificates, for both sales and use taxes.
* Execute month end journal entries and reconcile the sales and use tax accounts monthly.
* Prepare and review Canada GST and various provincial tax returns.
* Assist in sales and use tax audits, with guidance from the Senior Tax Accountant and Senior Manager, Tax.
* Support and maintain processes relating to Vertex sales/use tax software.

3. Other Tax Responsibilities:

* Prepare workpapers for the annual Property Tax returns, prepare such returns, and ensure filing on time.
* Assist in assessments of buildings and interactions with property tax assessors, including building tours.
* Prepare Foreign Bank Account Reporting filings.
* Assist in Transfer Pricing preparation and review, with guidance from the International Tax Manager.
* Assist in compiling data for and analyzing results of cost segregation studies.
* Assist in withholding tax payments, research, and associated 1042 forms relating to dividends to foreign shareholders, royalties, and other foreign payments.
* Assist in documenting tax processes and contribute to the improvement of tax departmental documentation in accordance with record retention policies.
* Assist in research and communication relating to various employment tax issues as they arise.
* Preparation of various Federal Excise tax filings.
* Preparation of various 1099 forms.
* Assistance and research relating to stock option and share repurchase tax consequences.
* Prepare and maintain log of corporate aircraft relating to corporate deduction and income inclusions where relevant.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 1-3 years of experience working in an accounting or tax setting.

2. Bachelor's degree in accounting.

3. Ability to work independently and with others.

4. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

5. Understand and comply with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

6. Excellent organizational skills to effectively prioritize duties and responsibilities.

7. Solid verbal, writing, and grammatical skills including telephone etiquette.

8. Strong attention to detail.

9. Demonstrated tact and independence in handling internal and external contacts.

10. Excellent computer skills including electronic mail, calendar, word processing, spreadsheet, databases, and network environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 1-3 years of relevant tax experience is strongly preferred.

2. CPA certification or CPA eligible.

3. Proficiency in tax research (BNA).

4. Working knowledge of SAP.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to work with computer equipment and telephone.
