Student Housing is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 6 UCI managed housing communities and 3 support units, with more than 300 staff employees, 300-400 student employees and an annual operating budget of $120 million. Student Housing provides housing for approximately 10,000 undergraduates, graduate students and their families in over 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million sq. ft.
Currently, Student Housing houses 51% of UCI's enrolled students (in conjunction with American Campus Communities, UCI's 3rd party housing partner) with a goal of housing 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan. Student Housing provides maintenance and repair services to student residents as well as residence life programming.


Your Role on the Team

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry-wide business process and analysis practices and organizational policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of business process issues of moderate to complex scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Housing Administrative Services, the StarRez Configuration and Maintenance Specialist serves as configuration manager and utilizes StarRez technical expertise to analyze and research business and user needs in order to identify, purchase, setup, modify, implement, evaluate, test, and maintain UCI's StarRez instance. Responsible for ensuring the system meets organizational and operational needs through process development and system programming efforts. Duties include:
Design, configure, and maintain various student portal processes for UCI housing including user interfaces in the student portal for new and continuing students. This encompasses processes such as housing applications, roommate searches, cancellation requests, and room selection, among others.
Automate financial and administrative and housing processes in StarRez using tools like data subscription, text templating, custom tools, generic tables and email templates.
Configure new modules in StarRez by collaborating with StarRez consultants (e.g., parcel tracking, maintenance, inventory, and inspection modules).
Create and update StarRez lists, reports, and dashboards. Responsible for defining and building StarRez reports utilizing StarRez StarQL query language to create dynamic and custom reports that pull necessary data to meet business needs.
Analyze and troubleshoot any errors in PortalX configuration and StarRez web processes through thorough testing.
Follow up on system updates to ensure everything is up to date.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, StarRez, and other universities. Provides StarRez technical support and training to Housing staff. Serves as liaison with multiple cross-functional teams including staff from Housing Admin Services, Finance and Business Operations, Resident Services, Graduate and Family Housing and the StarRez vendor to identify business needs and specifications, present solutions, and use technical expertise to evaluate and recommend processes and changes. Works with campus partners in Financial Services, Enrollment Services, and Housing IT/OIT to ensure reliable and accurate data handoffs involved in Housing processes.
Innovate and Continual Process improvement. Drive continual process improvement and innovation in alignment with University, Divisional, and Departmental goals by identifying opportunities, implementing new and efficient solutions, and fostering a culture of efficiency and creativity.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $77,000- $87,010 (Annual).

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of business and process analysis functions. Experience creating complex user interface designs, planning and executing integration and acceptance testing.
  • Thorough Knowledge of related areas of StarRez StarQL query language.
  • Strong skills and knowledge of methodologies associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture. Experience gathering analyzing, preparing, and summarizing business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system and process logic issues.
  • In-depth understanding and skill in process and systems requirement documentation standards, such as Use Case modeling, User Story creations and narrative description.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Broad knowledge relating to software design. Experience gathering analyzing, preparing, and summarizing business and user needs, documenting requirements and revising existing system and process logic issues.
  • Thorough knowledge of business processes and procedures.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Experience creating complex user interface designs, planning and executing integration and acceptance testing.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Experience to perform high-level analytical work, analyzing complex information, performing independent research, presenting large quantities of complex data and materials to facilitate decision-making, making strategic recommendations and executing programmatic goals.
  • Experience using StarRez, a vendor cloud-based (SaaS) proprietary housing management software ; to include, configuration of term/term session configuration (room and meal rates, etc.), defining and configuring application processes (PortalX) and forms, performing mass assignments or auto-allocation; building reports; administering security groups and user permissions.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience analyzing business needs, configuring and maintaining systems according to business requirements, as well as testing and deploying configurations.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and trends of management, marketing, accounting principles (GAAP and Non-Profit/Governmental/HigherEd), and student housing services.
  • Experience providing support and training on new applications and providing guides and direction to staff.
