Maintenance Mechanic II Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. Requirements The Maintenance Mechanic II responds to trouble calls after hours and performs work on A/C and heating repairs, ventilating, and pumping equipment. They repair and troubleshoot all plumbing repairs (for example, fire alarms, lock outs electrical outages, water main breaks, and building floods). Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Ensure efficient and economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources, drawing and/or requisitioning supplies, parts, materials, and tools needed to effect repairs, using such items economically to avoid undue costs. Keep supervisor informed of supply/material needs to ensure that adequate inventory is maintained, suggesting improvements in service to improve unit operations. Provide supervisors and department management with advice and suggestions regarding work methods, procedures, parts, tools and related matters for the purpose of improving the effectiveness and cost of service. Conduct tests or pilot programs to evaluate new products, methods or procedures, monitoring tests and reporting test results with recommendations to supervisor as needed. Ensure completion of paperwork to assure accountability and record actions taken in response to work orders and other requests, entering such information on forms, documents, and/or into computerized record system as needed. Fill out, complete, and submit forms and documents as may be required to assure that such information is properly recorded and submitted, having the knowledge of trade or working knowledge of a variety of trades to respond to calls. Ensure that work is performed in accordance with applicable building codes and local government regulations, keeping abreast of changes and new developments in applicable codes. Use and dispose of materials in accordance with applicable environmental safety and control regulations. Work Interactions This position reports directly to the Supervisor of the Maintenance Shop working within the Facility Operations Division along with employees of other trades, and trades helpers. Depending on the assigned area of work, this position reports directly to a Zone Manager along with employees of other trades, and trades helpers. The work performed by the incumbent is a direct service to the department ensuring a comfortable, safe, and clean environment, in which the University community can live, learn, and work. Requirements and Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; Master mechanic, journeyman plumber, or journeyman electrician designation preferred Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the stationary engineer trade Possession of an appropriate stationary engineer's license for the facility assigned. DC 1st Class Engineer's License required Requires 4-5 years of experience performing general building maintenance work utilizing intermediate electrical, plumbing, and HVAC/refrigeration skill Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications Requires completion of a training program in general building maintenance that includes intermediate electrical, HVAC/refrigeration, and plumbing Must have Universal EPA -CFC certification Requires basic computer literacy with familiarity of basic MS Windows operating system programs Must have a valid driver's license issued from the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia Work Mode Designation This position has been designated as On-Campus. This position may require the incumbent to operate University commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10K+ (e.g., tow trucks, box trucks, trash trucks, buses, lifts, etc.).
