We embrace challenging projects and work hard to help our clients find success. Summary Sambatek is seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic team! In this role, you will be responsible for executing fieldwork based on assigned work orders and gathering essential survey data from our company network. This role will focus on construction staking. Our projects span a diverse range of industries, including public and private developments, commercial and residential projects, municipal infrastructure, utilities, and energy. This variety keeps our work engaging and provides excellent opportunities for professional growth. What you can expect:
- High-Impact Work - This is a fast-paced, production-oriented role with annual production goals ranging from 90-95%.
- Varied Schedule - Field crews typically start around 6 AM in the summer, while winter schedules are more flexible. End times vary based on workload and project locations, but we aim to finish by 4 PM whenever possible.
- Team Dynamics - Some days, you'll work independently, while other times, an Instrument Technician will join the crew depending on project needs.

- Expected Compensation Range: $35.00-47.00/per hour (Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications)
- Pay Rate Type: Hourly with overtime rate of 1.5x base pay for all hours worked over 40 in a week
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise to internal and external clients
- Work with project managers to understand project scope, budgets, and schedules
- Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work including: construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types
- Work with registered land surveyors to determine boundaries
- Responsible for interpreting and reviewing engineering plans while completing construction staking activities- must problem solve and know when to ask questions
- Review work, quality control, and presentation of field survey data such as data files, field notes, and site photos
- Maintain a field truck (keep it clean and organized)
- Operate and perform general maintenance on GPS, total stations, and data collectors (Trimble equipment such as: S5, S6, SX-12, R10, R12, and TSC 7)
- Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders
- Maintain productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers
- Adhere to the company's safety, QA/QC, and surveying policies
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working as a Crew Chief
- Experienced in construction staking, topographic, ALTA, and as built surveys
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying (or equivalent experience)
- Ability to meet deadlines and stay within budget
- Basic MS Office Suite computer skills
- Able to retain verbal and written communication
- Valid driver's license required
- CST III (preferred, not required)
- Willing to travel in the region (up to 50% travel)
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
- Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons of weather
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
