Job Summary: As an integral part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team supporting individuals in treatment and recovery from opioid use disorder, the Substance Use Counselor provides skilled individual and group counseling. The Substance Use Counselor contributes to Bay Cove's mission by bringing a trauma-informed and non-judgmental approach to the treatment of individuals in recovery.

This is a non-exempt position. This is a full-time position.

Essential Functions of Position:



  • Conduct intake interviews with potential clients requesting substance abuse and mediation for opioid use disorder.
  • Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment, complete with clinical formulation and treatment recommendations.
  • Partner with clients to establish individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide individual counseling to approximately 40 individuals, involving family members and other support network members as indicated.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to facilitate a variety of groups using evidenced based curriculums.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to review care provided and progress made, making adjustments to the treatment plan as needed.
  • Coordinate each client's discharge in concert with nursing and aftercare providers.
  • Complete all required documentation and reporting in accordance with agency and DPH/BSAS guidelines for format, timeliness, and quality assurance.
  • Actively participate in training, group and individual supervision, and other professional development opportunities with the goal of continual development of clinical skills.
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention, escalating to the appropriate party when assistance is needed (supervisor, AMCI Team, etc.).
  • Other job related duties as assigned.


Requirements for the position:



  • Current licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor II (LADCII).
  • Prior experience in harm reduction and trauma responsive care preferred.
  • Prior experience working in an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medications (opioid agonist, partial agonist, and antagonist) used in outpatient treatment centers for Opioid Use Disorders.
  • Stated willingness to receive training on, and provide client education on, recurrence prevention, harm reduction, and overdose prevention and intervention.
  • Demonstrated professional commitment to incorporate evidence based practices.
  • Demonstrated professional writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of basic computer software and functions (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and necessary specialty platforms such as eHana and SMART).
