Position Summary
Under the direction of department leadership, the Organ Donation Specialist is responsible for the screening, evaluation, and clinical management of the potential organ donor. The Organ Donation Specialists demonstrates sensitivity and empathy when offering donation to a potential donor family, providing support and compassion during and after the donation process. Fosters a collaborative/team working spirit and actively helps and supports others to achieve team goals.

Responsibilities
Coordinates the organ donation process including screening for medical suitability, clinical assessment, and medical management of donor candidate, including histocompatibility and serologic testing of the donor
- Collects and documents medical data and donor medical and social history as related to the procurement process and communicates accurate and pertinent information about the donor to the transplant and/or procurement surgeons.
- Is responsible for organ allocation in accordance with prevailing organ distribution policies through UNOS and works with surgical recovery teams, operating room staff and family to determine a time for recovery.
- Meets with the potential donor family to offer donation providing emotional support during and after the donation process. Accurately obtains and completes written consent from the legal next of kin for the purposes of organ donation
- Performs clinical skills as appropriate (bronchoscopies, arterial lines, etc.)
- Assists Hospital Relations Specialists with educating health care professionals and the public regarding organ donation; may develop, conduct, and participate in education programs for health care professionals and the public.
- Supports and demonstrates a customer service commitment to internal and external customers through adherence to Versiti customer service standards and processes.
- Maintains competence through attendance job-related continuing education.
- Actively participates and contributes in Lean and continuous improvement, contributes to quality assurance activities, actively participates in and supports all departmental DEI initiatives, proactively seeks continued professional development.
- Understands and performs to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements set forth by AOPO (Association of Organ Procurement Organizations) and UNOS.
- Demonstrates schedule flexibility as determined by business need, required evening, weekend and holiday work hours. Work/job related travel and reliable transportation is required.

Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of one of the following programs: RN, NP, PA, Critical Care Paramedic, Human Donation Science required
Experience
- 1-3 years critical care experience required required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Licenses and Certifications
- One of the following required
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
- NP - Nurse Practitioner - Licensed required
- PA - Physician Assistant required
- CCP-C - Critical Care Paramedic - Certified required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver's License and access to a vehicle required
