The UCI School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice through scholarly research, physician education and high-quality care. The office of Medical Education oversees the education and training of medical students at the UCI School of Medicine, ranked as one of the top 50 U.S. medical schools for research by U.S. News & World Report. We are dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice by offering a rich educational environment. We nurture the development of medical students, resident physicians and scholars in the clinical and basic sciences and support the dissemination of research advances for the benefit of society. Each year, we educate more than 400 medical students and train more than 700 residents and fellows at UC Irvine Medical Center and affiliated institutions. The medical school's 915 full- and part-time and 753 volunteer faculty members are involved in teaching, providing medical care, and conducting research into the health challenges facing the 21st century. The school has 26 departments, ranging from basic science research to clinical medical and surgical specialties. It has research, clinical and teaching relationships with the VA Long Beach Healthcare System and Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

This position will be responsible for developing instructional design skills to articulate course design, apply learning objectives/outcomes, and select appropriate technologies and tools to achieve academic goals for the Train New Trainers (TNT) Fellowships education programs within the Office of Medical Education. Under the direction of Associate Dean and TNT Administrative Director, this position will consult with faculty and staff on on-going course development work, with detailed instructions provided on new projects, assignments, and initiatives. The instructional designer will collaborate with faculty and staff to determine methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology that promotes learner engagement and knowledge acquisition in accordance with established procedures and schedules. The instructional designer will deploy content on learning management platforms and monitor course progress during the cohorts. They will work in a collaborative manner with team members to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis, and development recommendations. This position will attend in person TNT conferences and assist the team with event coordination. The instructional designer will provide trainings to the incoming fellows related to Canvas.


Your Role on the Team

Works on instructional design content and initiatives that are of moderate scope and complexity. Applies organization policies, procedures and objectives to create content to meet online needs among various functions and departments. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Working knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
  • Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
  • Proficiency in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
  • Working knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems.
  • Working knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).

Special Conditions:

  • Required to drive on occasion in order to perform the routine or essential job responsibilities for the position. Must possess a valid California driver license.
  • Flexibility to work some nights or weekends for meetings/events.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $31.94- $44.35 (Hourly).
