Overview

HJF is seeking a Software Developer II who envisions product development and manages projects through completion. The incumbent analyzes, designs and develops software enhancements and new modules. They will manage development projects from initial design through testing while providing strategic management direction.

This position will be in support of the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i). The Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i), funded by the Department of Defense was established in 2013. SC2i is a Uniformed Services University center that leverages legacy information from service members, and critically ill civilian and military patients to develop biomarker-driven clinical decision support tools (CDSTs) with the goal of improving patient clinical outcomes and reducing costs across the injury/disease cycle.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.


Responsibilities

  • Works with users to discuss requests for enhancements.
  • Independently designs, develops, tests, deploys, maintains and documents software fulfillment across multiple development areas.
  • Leads project requirements with independent analysis and formulation of software solutions.
  • Independently performs testing and quality control to ensure high quality solutions.
  • Performs IT infrastructure planning and implementation.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
  • Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must acquire domain specific knowledge and understand the technical aspects of research projects.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner using both written documentation and oral presentations.
  • Must have experience with HTML/JavaScript/AJAX/CSS Web Development and VS Code.
  • Must be proficient with Django, including but not limited to: Django ORM, Django Model Template View (MTV), Django REST Framework (DRF).
  • Must be proficient in Git Version Control, Python, SQL and relational database design and administration, preferably postgresql.
  • Must have a background in IT infrastructure fundamentals, including networking, storage, docker/cloud deployments, and security IAM/Service accounts.
  • Must have experience working with Linux environments (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat).
  • Proficient in utilizing Ansible to automate configuration management and deployment tasks.
  • Should be able to demonstrate skill growth with Google Cloud Platform, CI/CD and REDCap development. Prior experience not required.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,500-$115,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
