Auria is looking to hire a System Engineer - Link16 SME to support the Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) program. The primary work location can be in either Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL.
This position will be assigned to the C2BMC Systems Engineering Team within SEIT. The Link-16 Interface SME / Engineer is a Systems Engineer and will sometimes be called to support non-interface systems engineering activities. The Link-16 SME and Interface Engineer will lead in authoring the development of ICDs and IDDs, especially Link-16 related. The Link-16 Interface SME / Engineer is considered the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for C2BMC. Attend interface working group meetings with MDA customers and representatives of assigned external element engineering organizations, as well as support program integration and test-related efforts for the associated interface.
Essential Functions:
- Authoring Link-16 ICDs and IDDs and providing expertise to the interface developers within the software team on the integration of Link-16 messaging
- Establishing new interfaces between external elements, including sensors and other Command and Control Systems
- Must ensure the ICDs and IDDs created to meet the program's requirements
- Expected to develop various behavioral diagrams to understand and document the requirements
- Create requirements captured in DOORS and sufficient detail to provide a clear understanding to the implementation teams
- Primary responsibility will be developing and updating multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs)
- May also be assigned to support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for other BMDS Elements:
- Support requirements engineering
- Use case development
- Logical architecture modeling tasks as SE department tasking requires
- Support spiral leadership to ensure interface artifacts and system assessment tasks required for the assigned sensor interface are completed when required
Basic Qualifications:

- Current/active in-scope DoD issued SECRET security clearance, which is required to start.
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience
- or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of experience,
- or a PhD and 4 years of experience,
- or 12 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
- Strong understanding and demonstrated experience in developing Link-16 interfaces and messaging
- Familiarity and demonstrated knowledge of MIL-STD-6016 and its derivatives
- Experience in authoring Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs) in accordance with Link-16 Standards
- Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles
- Must have a proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions
- Must have experience in requirements elicitation, including using behavior diagrams as an analysis tool to understand and decompose requirements
- Must have demonstrated Systems Engineering skills and experience with:
- Interface engineering
- Authoring of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs)
- Message definition and processing rules
- Message Formatting
- Physical/network specifications and models, including the ISO OSI model
- Physical/network topologies and devices
- Network protocols
- The following requirements for engineering and development of behavioral models and diagrams are required:
- Use cases
- Sequence diagrams
- Activity diagrams
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must
- Requirements engineering, including experience working with IBM Rational's Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
- Risk Management Framework (RMF)-based cyber security and experience with Agile or Iterative Development Methods
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related Engineering STEM discipline and 6 years of related work experience is highly preferred
- Certification: INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) Certification
- Certification: Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional - Model Builder Fundamental (OCSMP - MBF)
- Experience authoring Missile Defense System (MDS) ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable
- Experience authoring Complex Command and Control Systems ICDs and IDDs is highly desirable
Salary Range:The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications - skills, education & experience - and the position level ($125,000 - $140,000).
