About The Team:

Do you love technology and want to use the latest advancements at work? At Morningstar Retirement Group, we challenge the status quo and foster a culture of curiosity. We focus on solving problems, optimizing our product development process, and enhancing team productivity through collaboration. We value product thinking, involve engineers early in the process, and appreciate contributions from all team members.

We're all in for investors. Our mission is to empower individuals to achieve financial success and realize their retirement dreams. We offer personalized guidance on how much to save, how to invest, when to retire, and more, based on individual circumstances.

We're seeking talented engineers to build next-generation retirement applications. Join us on this exciting journey as we develop a new platform, leveraging cutting-edge technologies like generative AI, Vue.js, and AWS Cloud to elevate our user experience to the next level.

The Role:

You'll join a cross-functional squad to build our innovative financial platform, working closely with product managers and software engineers. You'll also participate in on-call support (two weeks approximately every three months) and have the opportunity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies. As a team player, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Operations, Marketing) to ensure timely delivery of new features, design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, secure, and high-quality software solutions, and continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

This is a hybrid position (3 days in-office) based in Chicago.

You'll Thrive in This Role If:

  • You have 5+ years of experience in developing or supporting enterprise-level applications.
  • You are an expert in JavaScript or TypeScript, and one of the modern web frameworks like Vue.js.
  • You are an expert in HTML, CSS, with advanced knowledge of responsive web design principles.
  • You enjoy mentoring junior engineers.
  • You see obstacles as puzzles to solve rather than blockers to complain about.
  • You are passionate about technology and eager to learn new things.
  • You demonstrate strong ownership and accountability.
  • You bring energy and positivity to the team, making collaboration fun and effective.

Nice to Haves:

Honestly, these are here to give you a sense of what tools we work with. We really mean these to be "nice to haves."

  • Experience with engineering practices such as writing design documents, performing code reviews, pair programming, and participating in product development processes.
  • Experience working with cloud services, preferably AWS.
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and AWS Fargate.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (HTTP(s), basic security principles).
