The company is currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Supervisor.

The Engineering Supervisor, Smart Handling Mechanical reports to the AGV Engineer Manager for Smart Handling vehicle development. This role supervises, helps to direct, and participates in the design of Automatic Guided Vehicle (AGV) mechanical infrastructures - including, but not limited to vehicle frames and load handling frames - with a multidisciplinary development team including electrical, controls, and software disciplines. This position coordinates with the AGV Engineering Manager, other supervisors, and customers to design and develop quality products that meet the customers' needs. Additionally, this role interfaces with our manufacturing team to assist with fabrication questions and design for manufacturability. This position also participates in improvement recommendations related to productivity, cost reduction, and customer satisfaction. Translates technical requirements into actual vehicle mechanical architecture and design.



Responsibilities

Major Areas of Responsibility

    Review and interpret customers' project specifications.
  • Provide structured and creative data analysis of customer's operational and financial data to identify performance improvement opportunities.
  • Define scope of work and description of operation.
  • Calculate equipment performance requirements.
  • Calculate equipment performance capabilities.
  • Create vehicle concept drawings, renderings, and illustrations.
  • Create vehicle detailed design in 3D CAD.
  • Create manufacturing details, drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Create As-Built drawing packages.
  • Manage budget, schedule, and scope of design.
  • Participate in simulation/emulation as needed.
  • Ensure that the vehicle mechanical components are designed to intended level of function, durability, and cost, with focus on deliverables.
  • Investigate and specify third party components required to meet mechanical specifications.
  • Prepare Request For Quote (RFQ) and specification documentation for equipment and machinery.
  • Evaluate technical risk of the project(s).
  • Identify and raise any issues that may impact project quality, scope, timing, or cost.
  • Present material handling technical solution to customer and internal teams.
  • Provide mentorship and building of the Smart Handling mechanical engineering team.
  • Manage work assignments for the team.
  • Make design decisions on designs in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Recommend and implement product and process improvement.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Knowledge

  • English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience in manufacturing management role
  • 5+ years of related experience, direct experience in mechanical machine design and/or Automatic Guided Vehicle design experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in AutoDesk Vault
  • Proficient in 3D mechanical design - AutoDesk Inventor preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCad 2022 or later revisions
  • Proficient in product engineering and machine design

Demonstrated Physical Abilities

  • Remain stationary for 50% of the time; move/traverse throughout the office to access file cabinets and office equipment; operate a computer and other productivity machinery; inspect documents; communicate with others through talking/hearing; read/identify/assess forms and correspondence.
  • Visits to customer locations may require negotiating through an industrial facility, including, but not limited to, conveyor systems requiring climbing access ladders, negotiation screen guards, catwalks, and lifting and/or carrying objects up to 40 lbs.
