Education and Work Experience:
* High School Diploma or equivalent required
* Experience working with people
* Minimum of 6 months of experience working on a register and in customer service
Scope of Position:
* Provide fast, friendly customer service when working in the Thrift Store. Point of Sale (POS) and Closing revenue reconciliation. Help on the Thrift Store retail floor with stocking shelves and display of merchandise, including furniture displays. Maintain a friendly, clean and safe shopping environment for customers, donors, clients, and co-workers.
* Assist when instructed with production of donated items. This includes sorting, cleaning pricing, hanging, sizing, and floor distribution.
* Assist with donation receiving as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Able to handle cash, make change, and operate cash register/POS. Reconcile register at the end of each shift
* Excellent Customer Service
* Ensure that every customer is properly greeted and acknowledged when in the thrift store.
* Ensure that customers are acknowledged for their patronage.
* Ensure that employees are treated in a friendly and enthusiastic manner.
* Diplomatically handle customer complaints and concerns regarding store policy and procedures: always maintain Salvation Army standards for quality and customer relations...refer to the manager whenever possible.
* Customer service mindset
* Ensure that customers are directed regarding any items they may have to donate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* The thrift store clerk is expected to be proficient in customer service, merchandising, and POS/Cash handling.
* The purpose of this position is to assist in the daily operations of a thrift store retail outlet, customer service, cash handling, stocking, and donation receiving.
* All incumbents accepted for the position of Thrift Store Clerk will also be trained for the position of Sorter and will interchange positions as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Continued:
* Keep clothing racks stocked, neat, and orderly
* Must be able to understand instructions concerning handling and marking of merchandise.
* Primary responsibilities are to create and maintain a friendly, inviting, clean, and professional atmosphere that encourages customers to want to frequently return to The Salvation Army to make purchases.
* Stock household and other miscellaneous items
* Stock shoes, purses, belts, hats, books
* Stock furniture, grouping whenever possible.
* Keep aisles clean, clear, and picked-up.
* Keep shelves clean, orderly, and stocked.
* Participate in general store housekeeping (i.e. vacuuming, sweeping, and general cleaning)
* Remove merchandise according to policy
* Process and price merchandise/donations according to policy
* Assist donors with unloading. Inform donors when donations are unusable.
* Sort, prep, and clean donations upon request
* Other duties as assigned.

This position will require job related lifting loading and unloading. The Thrift Store Clerk must be able to lift to 25 pounds. Occasionally, lifting may exceed 25 pounds and should be attempted safely using appropriate equipment and in accord with recommended procedure (get help).
Walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, twist body, push, pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds for short distances, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, climb stairs, hear, identify colors, have close vision, have finger dexterity, speak and read, also will include wearing plastic or rubber gloves, working with household cleaners, exposure to inside and outside temperate variations, exposure to dust and molds, and may require operation of company owned vehicles.
