Oversee and provide leadership to a team of 150-180 life underwriting staff Drive underwriting productivity and quality assurance, ensuring adherence to KPIs Act as a strategic advisor, identifying process gaps and implementing efficiency improvements Lead and mentor underwriters while fostering a positive and collaborative work culture Manage escalated underwriting cases and ensure cross-functional collaboration Optimize case management and workflow systems, ensuring best practices are followed Balance day-to-day operations oversight with high-level strategic leadership Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations Lead and mentor a large team of professionals in a high-performance environment. Effectively fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and transparency at all levels. Set clear goals and expectations for all levels of employees. Provide coaching and support to leadership to develop effective succession planning to enable flexibility and business resiliency. Oversee the company's training program for underwriting professionals, looking for opportunities to simplify and enhance it wherever possible. Deliver consistent communication of the departmental vision and how it aligns to the company's strategic plans to all levels of employees. Create, establish, and execute underwriting processes, procedures, and strategies. Collaborate with leaders and employees across the enterprise to set, monitor, and adjust policies and procedures to address cross-functional impacts resulting from business needs, regulatory changes, and/or market trends. Review, monitor, maintain, and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure departmental productivity, quality, and profitability. Review and approve high value and complex underwriting cases, leveraging underwriting experience to exercise judgement. Contribute cross-functionally with team members in Regulatory Compliance, Actuarial, Claims, and Accounting to ensure appropriate balance of risk mitigation and business growth opportunities. Represent the Underwriting department in meetings with key stakeholders, senior leadership, and other parties. Improve departmental processes and efficiencies to reduce administrative expenses and improve service to our customers and agents. Lead efforts to improve, develop, and implement new tools, technologies, and automation within the underwriting process. Research and effectively network internally and externally to stay current on industry best practices, trends, emerging risks, and technology improvements that may impact the company or industry overall. Prepare and perform research, analytical studies, cost-benefit analyses, prepare financial and/or statistical reports and effectively communicate and make recommendations to senior and executive leadership. Support collection of medical records for all departments within Globe Life and affiliates. Engage with key internal and external customers and vendors to enhance the customer and employee experience. Routinely perform financial projections for underwriting expenses and employee salary costs. Prepare material to routinely present to senior and executive management regarding departmental performance. *Skills* Life Underwriting, Life insurance, Vice President, Senior Director, Director *Top Skills Details* Life Underwriting,Life insurance,Vice President,Senior Director,Director *Additional Skills & Qualifications* 10+ years of experience in life insurance underwriting 5+ years of leadership experience at the Senior Director level or above Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Professional designations such as FLMI, AMLI strongly preferred Experience with Resonant or similar underwriting case management systems A bachelor's degree in the areas or Business, Finance, Actuarial Science, or related field required. A master's degree or professional designation (FLMI, FALU, ALMI) is a plus. Minimum 10+ years of experience in life insurance industry and at least 5 years of underwriting management experience is required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and management skills and experience is a must. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees. Subject matter expertise in medical underwriting, terminology, industry trends, risk management, and understanding of life insurance products is required. Risk management and mitigation. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to leverage data and analytics to drive decisions is a must. Strong drive and proven ability to improve and enhance existing processes. Experience in driving change through the innovation and modernization of legacy underwriting tools/technologies. Proven ability to manage and develop teams, handle employee relations, and achieve departmental goals. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio) required. *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $170000.00 - $190000.00/yr.
