Position Description
The Department of Studio Art at the College of Charleston invites applications for a one-year, non-renewable Visiting Assistant Professor position in New Media & Technology with a Sculpture Focus, beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will have an MFA with a focus in sculpture and a secondary focus in new media. They will also have a demonstrated competency in computer-based fabrication and an interest in developing projects for sculpture courses related to new technologies. This position also requires the ability to teach various sculpture topics such as 3D design, metal fabrication, and woodworking. An ability to teach our general education art course and upper-level interdisciplinary courses is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with two years of college teaching experience beyond a graduate assistantship.
Teaching responsibilities: a 4/4 course load, teaching introductory to advanced sculpture courses and a general education humanities art foundations course to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. Includes departmental service.
One of 5 departments/programs in the School of the Arts, the Studio Art Department encourages creative productivity and close mentoring in 5 areas of study: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university located on a scenic campus in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The student body numbers approximately 12,000 in undergraduate and graduate programs combined.
