CDI Educator Auditor Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees education plan and delivers education to the CDI team to maintain each team member's knowledge and understanding of Inova goals and objectives, regulatory compliance, policy and procedures, and CDI principles and concepts.
- Establishes internal CDI audit plan. Completes internal auditing activities to ensure compliance with ACDIS/AHIMA documentation and coding practices. Collaborates with CDI Leadership to develop training/feedback loop for identified knowledge gaps.
- Performs quantitative and qualitative review and analysis of health records and physician queries to ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, complete, and assigned codes can be supported by documentation. Conducts chart reviews based on DRGs and site-specific trends to identify gaps in documentation and training opportunities.
- Participates in the interview process for CDS candidates and assists the CDS Manager in identifying the best candidates for hire.
- Plans and directs orientation for all new Clinical Documentation Specialists. Assesses new hires throughout the onboarding and training process and communicates assessments to new team members as well as CDI leadership.
- Assists CDI team members with the development of education materials for providers to keep them up to date in documentation principles and concepts relative to their areas of practice (including new provider orientations). Serves as a mentor/coach for CDSs who will be delivering provider education and real-time documentation support.
- Assists Lead CDS, CDI Manager, and CDI Director with short and long-term, strategic planning for the CDI team, identifying potential and/or actual barriers and/or opportunities to enhance the success and growth of the CDI team consistent with Inova's mission, vision, and values.
- Maintains current knowledge of trends, regulations, and technology related to documentation, coding, reimbursement, and regulatory guidelines through professional journals, informal networks, internet sites, and local, state, and national professional associations. Reviews professional CDI and coding literature regularly. Demonstrates enhanced knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology. Serves as a subject matter expert for Coding Guidelines/Clinics, CDI best practices, and medical advancement.
- Assumes the role of the CDS providing additional CDI support to Inova Health as needed (including but not limited to vacancies, increased patient volumes, vacations, and medical leaves).
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
CDI Educator Auditor Additional Requirements:
- Work schedule: Full-time Day Shift: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
- Education: Bachelor's degree required in nursing or other healthcare related field.
- Experience: Five years of professional inpatient acute care, inpatient clinical, and/or coding experience required. Includes ICU, ER, Peds/NICU, case management/UR, quality or similar level of advanced care/coding. AND Four years of Inpatient CDI, DRG assurance and/or Coding work experience.
- Certification: CDI certification (CCDS or CDIP)
- Licensure: RN, RHIA/RHIT, or foreign medical school licensure documentation equivalent to educational background required.
