Material Handler
Immediate opportunities are available for talented Material Handlers who want to become part of the Johnson Controls team.

This position reports to and works closely with the Receiving & Warehouse Supervisor to assist in the receiving and warehouse operations. In this role, you will perform a variety of functions to move supplies, materials, and equipment to and from the receiving, warehouse and manufacturing areas of the plant. You'll need organizational skills and abilities to communicate efficiently and effectively are of paramount importance. Additionally, you will need the ability to use or working knowledge of the different functions of the SAP system.

What You'll Do:

  • Receive, count, visually inspect, and verify part numbers on material and equipment.

  • Monitor assigned Queue for requested material from production and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor, lead person.

  • Check material for defective conditions to Supervisor, lead person.

  • Safely move material between the dock, warehouse and/or manufacturing areas using a forklift or other Power Industrial Vehicle (P.I.V.) Make sure all physical moves are properly and timely recorded within the SAP Warehouse Management System.

  • May conduct yard inventory, dock audit and/or cycle count as directed by Supervisor and/or lead person.

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and safety checks on the forklift equipment such as checking horn, tires, lights, forks and frame.

  • Exercise great caution and maintain alertness at all times when operating forklift truck in order to avoid injury to pedestrians, other drivers, self and/or damage to materials.

  • Manage the loading and unloading of trucks including using forklift.

  • Operation of overhead crane possible.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

What We Look For:

  • At least 6 months of relevant material handler or Power Industrial Vehicle (P.I.V.) work experience within the last 2 years.

  • Ability to organize work safely, meet deadlines and work with accuracy.

  • Ability to read and write in English. Be able to communicate effectively.

  • Ability to operate standard computer and scanner equipment.

  • Ability to safely operate dock equipment, Forklift and overhead crane.

  • Track record of safely operating equipment.

  • Working knowledge of SAP System as it pertains to material movements.

Physical Requirements: (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to lift and move heavy steel materials (up to 40 lbs or more).

  • Ability to stand, bend, stair climb, and work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods (8+ hours).

  • Capability to work in various industrial conditions (e.g., noise, heat, etc.)
