Job Summary

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is seeking a full-time Maintenance Ops Specialist who performs maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs to enable proper operation of buildings, utilities, equipment, and facilities. This is a customer-service oriented position and requires timely and courteous service. Completes work orders and requests: painting, drywall repair, masonry, plumbing including carpentry and equipment and furniture repairs. This Maintenance Ops Specialist is also responsible for setting up equipment/furniture for events.

Essential Functions

45% Monitors, maintains and performs minor repairs for mechanical, carpentry, locks, plumbing, electrical, life safety and energy management system issues; investigates and obtains trades services if necessary; coordinates and oversees work performed by external vendors; performs preventative maintenance on cooling, water, heat, air, drainage and other infrastructure systems; performs minor repairs and remodeling.

45% Receives daily work orders through the department's electronic work order system and makes appropriate entries, changing work order statuses as projects progress. Maintains and tracks a supply of parts and other materials to successfully perform assigned tasks. Responds to work order requests and/or emergency calls; adheres to applicable policies and procedures; keeps assigned tools and/or equipment in clean and safe working conditions.

10% Performs other duties as assigned including event set up.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED, and three (3) years of specialized building maintenance and/or repair experience related to area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Three (3) years' experience in the facilities, maintenance or repair field
  2. One (1) year experience as a facilities or maintenance tech working in a commercial setting or educational setting
  3. Three (3) years' experience assisting trades personnel
  4. Experience in troubleshooting plumbing repair and installation
  5. Experience assisting in renovation of facility spaces
  6. Experience in carpentry work
  7. Experience in drywall repair, texturing and painting


Special Working Conditions

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving: https://www.maricopa.edu/about/careers/application-information#mvd

  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate's own expense

  • May require work off site or in a remote status.
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • Will require travel to the Black Mountain campus
  • Schedules may consist of shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, or otherwise non-standard work schedules and may involve "on-call" status and/or called in to work with short notice.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions, for short or long durations, including rain, wind, dust, cold temperatures and extreme desert heat.
    • Work may include moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, fumes, fuels, odors, poor ventilation, gasses, blood or other body fluids).
    • Some indoor work environments may not be air conditioned.
    • Work may involve frequent exposure to loud noise associated with tools or mechanical work and require the use of hand and power tools.
    • Some work may be performed in an office/computer workstation and require the use of a computer and keyboard for training, to check emails, and/or communicate with coworkers and supervision.
  • This classification may require that an incumbent be on their feet, standing or walking while performing duties, for the majority, if not all, of a work shift.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
