Job Overview

The Department of Anesthesiology is hiring a full-time Research Scientist. This position will participate in the development and design of research projects, protocols and experiments related to pain and neuroscience. Specifically, the candidate will examine sympathetic regulation of neuroinflammation and pathological pain.

Essential Functions

  • Design, coordinate and conduct experimental neuroscience research procedures for the purpose of investigating mechanisms of pain using molecular, biochemical, and anatomical and/or behavioral approaches.
  • Use surgical techniques to create rodent models of pain.
  • Utilize techniques such as qPCR, IHC, RNA scope, single-cell RNA sequencing in pain and neuroscience research.
  • Modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements.
  • Prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records.
  • May submit research proposals as principal investigator for intramural/extramural funding.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience or related field
  • Four years of postdoctoral training in neuroscience or related field, focusing on neuroinflammation using biochemical, anatomical, and behavioral approaches and surgical intervention.
