Description

Systems Planning Corporation (SPC), a subsidiary of GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an experienced Project Geologist, to monitor the construction of a geosynthetic cap system. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a team-oriented environment that will utilize their college education and past work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded professional with the ability to grow in today's environment. The candidate will be based out of GAI's Pittsburgh, PA office and will perform field work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

Essential Duties:



  • Monitoring the Contractor's daily activities.
  • Reviewing material deliveries and submittals for consistency with the Construction Drawings, Technical Specifications, and Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) Plan.
  • Performing and/or coordinating onsite testing by GAI, the Contractor, and/or third parties, and coordinating offsite laboratory testing of soil, grout, and cap system geosynthetics.
  • Tracking daily construction progress, submit daily/weekly summaries of work performed to the Station's QA/QC Coordinator, and attending onsite progress meetings.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date compilation of construction documents, as provided by the Contractor, for submittals, delivery slips, and material certifications.
  • Perform earthwork construction monitoring. The individual will be responsible for interpreting specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on construction excavations, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils.
  • Travel can be expected in the form of fieldwork, which will be daily local travel.


General Characteristics



  • Demonstrates progress in assisting Task Managers and Project Manager as needed on technical aspects of the project; well-rounded in aspects of consulting and the industry.

  • 12+ Years of Experience


Education



  • B.S. or M.S. Geology


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Geologist (P.G.) License


Technical Responsibilities



  • Prepares work plans to investigate geologic and groundwater projects.
  • Shows progress in leading several projects and is the primary person responsible for field data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and preparing first drafts of reports and other project documents.
  • Shows progress in preparing technical reports that present interpretations of the data collected and provide recommendations for additional investigation or remediation.

  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Provides continued mentored experience to staff.
  • Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of geology and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.

  • Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
  • Represents their area of specialty within the practice and liaises with related individuals and practices.
  • Routinely interacts with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others. Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
