Job Description:

Saab is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our team to support research and development of complex radar systems. The successful candidate will participate in design, development, modeling, and simulation in support of the U.S. radar development and modernization.Saab is currently hiring Senior Software Engineers to fulfill active program developments, as well as developing radar solutions to bring new capabilities to our customers.The location of this position is flexible; the successful candidate will have the ability to either work remotely or onsite in the East Syracuse, NY office.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in Transfer of Technology efforts for products being brought from International Saab locations to the US to support US sales and support

  • Work with technology partners to develop full understanding and assume ownership of software technology baselines for products being brought to Saab.

  • Design, develop, assemble, integrate, and test complex radar systems.

  • Determine, document, and enforce methods for complying with desired software development practices (examples: open technology requirements, safety and security, information assurance, metrics tracking, CM release plan)

  • Participate in peer technical meetings including design reviews, code reviews, integration reviews both internally and externally.

  • Design, develop, and integrate custom solutions for customer applications that build upon an existing codebase.

  • Provide identification, assessment, and resolution of risks during program planning and execution.

  • Work with Technical Leads to ensure technical, cost, and schedule performance is achieved.

  • Work within cross-functional teams that include systems, software, electrical, mechanical, test, and production engineers.

  • Interact with external customers and suppliers as a face of Saab for development and R&D programs.

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior engineers in the organization.

  • Collaborate across the functional organizations within Saab in the U.S. and across the global corporation.

Compensation Range: $146,800 - $190,800

The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering orrelated discipline

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in safety critical or mission critical industries (aerospace, defense/military, medical, automotive, energy / nuclear, etc.).

  • Demonstrated expertise in C/C++ as well as object oriented design and analysis including architecture and class frameworks.

  • Use of UML modeling tools for software design.

  • Experience with the DOD architectural framework and design guidance for radar systems and systems engineering processes.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build effective working relationships in team environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to effectively communicate to senior leadership, customers, and academic communities.

  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must hold or be able to obtain U.S. DOD SECRET security clearance.

  • International travel required

Skills and ExperienceDesired:

  • Recognized as the prime technical contact or subject matter expert on a project and has demonstrated direct customer engagement experience, especially in roles as an advisor to management and customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop advanced technological ideas and see through development to a final product.

  • Experience with design, development, and integration of complex ground based, shipboard, or airborne radar systems.

  • Experience in supporting technical and cost proposals.

  • Significant technical contribution for software in DOD programs.

  • Familiarity with open architectures (e.g. Modular Open System Architecture).

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
