Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op - Sediments/Site Remediation Engineer or Scientist in the Brooklyn, NY area. The position offers the opportunity to apply engineering (civil, geotechnical, chemical, and environmental) academic knowledge to real-world situations related to contaminated site assessment and remediation while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the summer semester of 2025. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for at least one additional semester rotation during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Working with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address complex problems.
  • Accepting instruction from many members of the team to accomplish project objectives.
  • Planning and implementing fieldwork. Field work may include (i) sampling various media such as surface sediment, sediment beds,, porewater, surface water, soil, and groundwater; (ii) driller and contractor oversight; (iii) construction quality assurance and oversight; and (iv) remediation system operation and maintenance checks.
  • Analyzing data, including reviewing historical documents and preparing maps, tables, and figures.
  • Preparing technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals.
  • Committing to Geosyntec's culture of health & safety.
  • Local travel or driving to project sites as needed.


Education and Licensure

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. university degree program in a relevant engineering, geology, or related discipline. (required)
  • Degree focus area in geology, or civil, geotechnical, chemical, or environmental engineering. (preferred)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly while being receptive to a hands-on coaching and teaching approach, working collaboratively as part of a team. (required)
  • Ability to digest and summarize technical language from white papers, reports or regulatory documents. (required)
  • Technical experience in engineering, geology, geotechnical, environmental, or related disciplines. (preferred)
  • Experience working in challenging outdoor environments. (preferred)
  • Experience with ArcView, CADD, and/or Microsoft Office. (preferred)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver's license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $21.17/hour / Maximum: $29.64/hour (NY)
