Overview

Bloomingdale's launched a new channel of business - our digital marketplace - in 2023 and we are seeking a Senior Manager to help build this business model and drive accelerated growth.

The Senior Manager (1 of 2) will oversee all elements related to Business Development and Account Management for half of the marketplace matrix.



  • As the Business Development Lead, they will act as a strategic thought partner with the Director of Marketplace and Merchants to develop category strategies, independently run pitch calls and maintain ownership of the onboarding pipeline.
  • They will oversee strategy for all aspects of Account Management including: Marketing, Promotions and Assortment Strategy.
  • They will also oversee 1 direct report Specialist, Marketplace, who will help support execution of the above functions.


Role and Responsibilities:

Business Development Lead:



  • Oversee the business development pipeline and seller acquisition process for half of the marketplace portfolio

    • Act as a strategic thought partner with the Director of Marketplace and Merchants to develop Category strategies
    • Lead regular touchpoints with Buyers to review pipeline, track progress in key biz development areas, and brainstorm future merchandise strategies
    • Independently run pitch calls for Tier 1-3 sellers. Support Director of MP for Luxury sellers
    • Lead generation - work in tandem with merchants to research and reach out to new brands and coordinate pitch calls
    • Maintain ownership of follow up process to collect information needed for onboarding
    • Work closely with the Specialist to ensure brands are onboarded according to schedule



Account Management Lead:



  • Act as the key relationship owner / business partner with Sellers to drive a fruitful partnership
  • Marketing

    • Develop marketing strategies for existing brands, new brands and new categories in collaboration with Sellers and cross FOB partners. Serve as primary counterpart to site merchandising and merchandise marketing teams, advocating for strategic priorities in monthly calls
    • Collaborate with MMN team to identify marketing opportunities, generating marketing revenue and driving sales
    • Ensure seamless execution of these strategies with support of the Specialist

  • Promotions

    • Partner with brands on promotional strategy tailored to each vendor
    • Effectively communicate and persuade brands to participate in a compelling promotional cadence
    • Oversee execution for ~130-175 brands (half of total matrix) with support of the Specialist
    • Liaise with buyers for OLM brands
    • Skills needed: Strong understanding of Promos and Vendor POV / strategic considerations. Ability to effectively communicate business opportunity and persuade brands to participate

  • Brand and SKU Rationalization

    • In partnership with the Specialist -

      • Analyze current business to identify unproductive areas to pull back (i.e. SKUs to exit, brands to exit)
      • Manage pipeline of 'warning' brands and facilitate process with brands end to end. Communicate expectations, provide check ins and facilitate terminations
      • Skills needed: strong understanding of how to analyze a business (top down and bottoms up), create business driving takeaways and manage vendor relationships




Qualifications

* We encourage candidates with either a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field to apply

* 4-6+ years of relevant work experience in merchandising, retail and/or e-commerce, online marketplaces is a plus not a requirement

* Excellent project management skills and strong sense of urgency to grow and manage a new emerging business.

* Customer-centric mindset and experience with cross-functional collaboration.

* Intellectually curious with strong analytical skills, drawing actionable insights and recommendations, and building strategies against the analysis

* Excellent stakeholder management with Merchandising, Product Management teams and the seller community.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Ability to effectively share technical information, communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business.

* Ability to juggle multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize tasks, and communicate timeline to team members.

* Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically.

* Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company information.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.

* Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
