JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The School Readiness Research Initiative is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Research Assistant to provide support to several ongoing NIH and IES funded research projects in the Child Study Center/College of the Liberal Arts/Penn State University. Openings are available at the University Park campus location.

Job Duties Primary duties may include:
  • Conduct comprehensive interviews with parents and young adults, code observations, administer standardized tests and learning activities to pre-school and kindergarten aged children, and facilitate parent-child video-taped interactions. Training provided.
Additional duties may include:
  • Materials preparation, detailed mailings, data entry and scoring, and general project related tasks.
Requirements and Qualifications General requirements for successful candidates:
  • Flexible schedule is essential and required.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with research participants in a variety of home and school environments.
  • Must be able to work independently, and as part of an established team.
  • Must be committed, reliable, organized, and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Specialized requirements for successful candidates:
  • Experience with social science research and/or children and families required.
  • Minimum Associates Degree or equivalent experience in psychology, human development, education, or other related field preferred.
Employment with the University for this job will require the operation of a motor vehicle as a part of the job duties. A valid US driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
  • This opening is located at the University Park campus but requires frequent regional travel to surrounding counties (Blair, Huntingdon, Mifflin and Juniata) for home and school visits.
  • Candidates must have access to a car and be able to provide their own transportation.
  • Mileage reimbursement provided.

Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
