The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office Animal Services Division is seeking a full-time Administrative Technician to provide essential administrative support in a dynamic law enforcement environment. This role involves managing office operations, processing financial transactions, maintaining records, coordinating schedules, and assisting both internal staff and the public. Key Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support & Reception
- Serve as the office receptionist, answering calls, directing inquiries, and greeting visitors.
- Prepare and process documents, reports, and correspondence with accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist with mail processing, including receiving, sorting, and affixing postage.
- Maintain data entry and record management within computer systems.
- Scheduling & Coordination
- Manage office schedules, appointments, and room reservations.
- Arrange travel accommodations and maintain scheduling databases.
- Financial & Procurement Responsibilities
- Process purchase orders, invoices, and payment vouchers, ensuring proper documentation and approvals.
- Monitor and maintain petty cash transactions and reimbursement submissions.
- Track and order office supplies, maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
- Records & Compliance
- Develop and implement filing systems and ensure compliance with the State Records Retention Schedule.
- Maintain and update personnel files and training records.
- Handle sensitive information securely while upholding confidentiality standards.
- Operations & Emergency Response
- Support office equipment maintenance by submitting service requests as needed.
- Assist in training new personnel on administrative procedures.
- Ensure regular and predictable attendance, meeting the county's scheduling requirements.
- Perform duties during emergency or disaster situations as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year of clerical, data entry, administrative support or related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the specific position as listed above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: grasping, handling, hearing, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily in an office setting, or meeting area with typical levels of noise and disruptions. Salary Information:, The hiring range for this position begins at $17.46/hour, or $36,325. Salary will be determined based on qualifications. Bilingual candidates are eligible for a differential (5%) when performing Spanish language interpretation during the course of work. New Hanover County offers:
