Behavioral Emergency Response Technician Opportunity -

The Behavioral Response Technician (BRT) functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing continuous patient care, supervision, education, interaction, ADL's and role modeling to staff. The BRT is specifically prepared to respond to Behavioral Emergencies in a way that maintains patient and staff safety and minimizes the use of physical intervention unless absolutely necessary. Patients cared for range in age from children through geriatrics depending on which unit worked. BRTs fulfill all functions of Mental Health Technicians, and are is offered additional training in Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques and experiences additional training as a BRT member.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate milieu management in a way that actively engages all patients in treatment or therapeutic activities
  • Be a crucial member of response in the hospital related to Crisis Prevention, de-escalation, and use of CPI to provide safe physical intervention to aggressive patients
  • BProvide input into Treatment Team Plans including strategizing interventions and precautions necessary to manage behaviors and achieve positive outcomes leading to patient discharge
  • Perform all duties of a basic MHT team member including ADL's. Examples of ADL's include, but not limited to, functional mobility, personal hygiene, oral care and grooming, which includes skin care and hair care, showering and or bathing, toileting, which includes getting on and getting off the toilet and assisting with cleaning the patient if necessary. BRTs may assist with dressing the patient, which includes selecting appropriate attire and putting it on. BRT's assist with feeding if necessary and cleaning up afterwards.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma required; Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience required in a behavioral health, military, security or correctional setting with knowledge of de-escalation techniques and progressive but limited use of force. Understanding of mental illness, is preferred but not required
  • CPI (non-violent crisis intervention) training and CPR required prior to working on the units. Required to participate in additional training and practice within the BERT Team
  • Demonstrates highest standards of professional conduct.
