Overview

AmTrust is seeking a motivated tax intern ready to learn about the various Corporate Tax functions, which include compliance, information reporting, tax accounting, and automation of manual processes through the utilization of tax technology applications. This role accelerates your learning and development by providing a solid foundation upon which to build your tax accounting career. You will assist with a wide range of duties that include analyzing data, preparing tax returns, and learning different components of ASC 740 reporting. You will work cross-functionally with various departments to support our process and gain exposure to best-in-class systems and processes. By the end of the internship, you will have a solid grasp of the tax accounting lifecycle.



Responsibilities

    Develop a working knowledge the key systems that support tax accounting and the financial reporting process.
  • Learn to navigate and become proficient in software programs utilized by the tax department.
  • Assist with meeting corporate tax compliance deliverables by their due dates.
  • Learn to prepare corporate tax returns and supporting workpapers (federal income tax returns and state and local income tax returns)
  • Collaborate with Non-Insurance and Insurance Federal, State and Local, and International tax groups on various deliverables/due dates.
  • Provide support for quarter close, which includes provision preparation, account reconciliations and analysis.
  • Perform necessary research to support understanding of related tax compliance or other technical tax issues
  • Enhance and develop communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and assist with ongoing projects.


Qualifications

Successful candidates possess problem solving and analytical skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize, planning and organizational skills, manage time effectively, good verbal and communication skills in order to collaborate with various departments.

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Taxation. Also, Master of Accounting, or JD Major.
  • Strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.0)
  • Basic understanding of financial and tax accounting principles.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with Excel.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.

This role is hybrid out of the Cleveland, OH office and is compensated at $20/hour.
