Job Summary |
The individual selected for this position will provide professional research assistance with ongoing fish health and disease programs at the E. W. Shell Fisheries Center, School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University. The selected individual will help develop and implement fish health-related projects, assist in planning, coordinating, maintaining, and executing studies, as well as maintaining research files and summarizing the data.

Essential Functions |
Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Planning and implementation- Develops and implements research projects and protocols for researchers and assists with/performs molecular analyses. These include fish/shrimp necropsy, gene expression, sequencing, and other assays related to fish health.
- Equipment/supplies management- Manages, prepares, and maintains equipment, materials, and labor in support of faculty and facility needs (including research and production equipment); Organization and accounting for expansive inventory.
- Assists with the development of reports and funding proposals.
- Compliance- Ensures compliance with animal care and chemicals and assists in maintaining suitable records to meet regulatory and safety requirements; Assists with chemical inventory, storage, and disposal.
- Data management- Summarizes, maintains and manages experimental data, protocols and records.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT
All levels require a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Biological Sciences, Aquaculture, or closely related discipline at the time employment begins.
Level I: No experience required
Level II: 2 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Level III: 4 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Level IV: 6 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
All levels require a Master's degree from an accredited institution in in Biological Sciences, Aquaculture, or closely related discipline at the time employment begins.
Level I: No experience required
Level II: 2 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Level III: 4 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Level IV: 6 years of experience with research practices and protocols relevant to the position
Advanced degrees accepted in lieu of years of experience. |
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities |
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills; ability to work in a group environment, minimal to moderate knowledge in the field of aquaculture research or fish health.
- Background in molecular biology applications.
- Broad knowledge of associated equipment, materials, and processes; minimum knowledge of aquaculture processes such as disease diagnostics, observation, documentation, data collection and analysis.

Minimum Technology Skills |
Computer skills in using programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.; Ability to work with statistical analysis software (Program R, GraphPad Prism) and online data and task management (Sharepoint; Teams) tools; familiarity/experience with a variety of water quality instruments and general farm equipment and tools. |
