Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit |
The mission of the Division of Student Success is to collaborate with the university community to deliver targeted, impactful services that enhance the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student population. Dedicated to fostering student success, the division provides leadership, guidance, and transitional support designed to equip students with the tools and resources they need from their first day on campus to the moment they receive their diploma, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the entire student lifecycle. This division includes the offices of University Advising, New Student Transitions & First Year Experience, Academic Support Programs, and Educational Opportunity Programs such as TRiO Student Support Services and McNair Scholars.

NST&
FYE) is committed to providing a comprehensive and collaborative approach to ensure the success and retention of our new students.

FYE helps new students and their families navigate the transition to college by connecting them to the people, programs, and resources at
UNC Greensboro which provide a solid foundation for student success.
NST &
FYE offers a range of programs and resources for new students delivered through orientation programs, transition courses, shared learning experiences, and peer support. Drawing from extensive knowledge about the first year experience,

Position Summary |
The Assistant Director will have direct oversight of Your First Year (
YFY) program development, marketing, execution, and assessment. This role manages departmental marketing and communications, and provides logistical support for Spartan Orientation Advising and Registration (
SOAR), ONL100 & 101, NAV1GATE (the Chancellor's New Student Convocation), and similar initiatives and other key first-year engagement events.
The Assistant Director supervises two graduate students and several undergraduate students in support of Your First Year and departmental marketing efforts. Additionally, this position oversees the creative content team, offering input and guidance on best practices for marketing and communications, and coordinates volunteer groups.
This role represents the department at university events, such as
SOAR and Admissions events, and serves on various campus-wide committees, including University Pro Comms and Rawkin' Welcome Weeks. The position is also responsible for managing several funds and evaluating programs for student impact, return on investment (
ROI), and improvement planning.
The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of New Student Transitions within the New Student Transitions and First Year Experience department. |
Minimum Qualifications |
- Master's degree from a four year university or college in the area of higher education administration, college student personnel, student development, or related field
- At least one year of directly related post-master's experience in a university setting, including direct experience with student success or new student programming
- Experience in creating, planning, implementing, and evaluating all program and event sizes and levels of complexity
- Experience managing allocated funds and creating program budget proposals
- Ability to develop and implement presentations and workshops to diverse audiences
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of a team
- Experience supervising undergraduate or graduate students
- Basic knowledge of technologies, including texting and mass email platforms, social media platforms and management systems, Adobe suite, desktop publishing, and virtual program/webinar platforms, such as Zoom
- Be available and willing to work irregular office hours during certain times of the year

- 2 years post-masters experience in a related field
