Position Summary:

Accountable for the creation, development and execution of Procurement strategies and initiatives. Ensures alignment with divisional goals and objectives as related to category management, inventory and slot management, margin objectives. Provides relevant solutions and resources to drive growth and success.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees the category management, supplier and broker relationship management, key divisional customer sourcing and inventory management strategies to ensure maximization and support of predetermined divisional, regional and home office goals and objectives.

  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with divisional teams and corporate product marketing teams to ensure effective and collaborative Procurement, optimal product mix, pricing/margin and information sharing, consistent strategies, understanding of internal and external customer needs and alignment of Corporate, Regional and Divisional goals.

  • Development and execution of a strategic purchasing program within each of the primary protein categories. Identifies strategic purchasing opportunities within this alignment and coordinates the execution of these initiatives.

  • Approves projects and initiatives that utilize Division resources and support Divisional needs and initiatives.

  • Assists in the creation and development of KPIs for each Regional and National Procurement team.

  • Identifies, creates and analyzes KPI reporting to ensure better utilization of Regional and National Procurement resources.

  • Develops operational budget for the department. Routinely monitors, manages and controls budget, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action and develops plans for productivity improvements.

  • Represents procurement, through participation in the creation of the annual, national, and division plans.

  • Ensures effective control of procurement results at the regional and divisional level, and takes corrective action to guarantee that the achievement of procurement objectives falls within designated budgets and the maximization of return on investment.

  • Ensures Divisional and Regional product and sourcing needs are represented, through effective communication and strategic planning sessions with the Home Office Teams

  • Attends and contributes to National category and corporate product marketing meetings, Regional Regional and National Procurement, Divisional Planning Sessions, Leadership Meetings, Sales meetings, food shows campaigns, promotions and other events and projects as assigned.

  • Interviews, hires, trains and retains staff. Conducts bi-annual performance reviews for direct reports, initiating follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources.

  • Develops and executes succession and annual procurement plans and assists procurement leaders with the development and execution of their team's development plans

  • Creates an environment that stimulates an interest in research, an expectation for data collection and the integration of findings into operational and strategic planning.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Develops solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives

  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of category management, sourcing and procurement, cost and pricing, sales and marketing metrics, strategies and tactics.

  • Deep understanding of how to position and evangelize Category strategies to senior level executives.

  • Experience in B2B sales and marketing - i.e., relationship-based marketing with complex buying cycles.

  • Ability to inject creativity, fresh thinking, and new perspectives into business approaches.

  • Social perceptiveness - awareness of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do

  • Judgment and decision making - considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

Equipment / Tools / Technology:

  • Desktop or laptop computer

  • Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Sites, Drive, Docs, Groups)

  • Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer)

  • Networked printer/copier/facsimile machine

  • Specialty systems - including cost, pricing and reporting systems

  • Teleconferencing equipment

  • "Big data" management and reporting tools. (e.g. micro strategy)

Educational & Experience Requirements:

Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Business or related field

Minimum Years of Experience:

8-10 years previous experience in merchandising, marketing, procurement, buying or related field, with two or more years of previous management experience.
