Position Summary

City of Hope is seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Day Hospital, specializing in cancer treatment, including infusions, Hematopoietic Cell Transplants (HCT), CAR T-cell therapy, and Hematology. You will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care, education, and support to our patients. This opportunity is for full-time, 12-hour shifts, and is designated for the day shift (8:00am start time). The department is open 7 days per week and some weekend scheduling will be required.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' oncology treatment needs and monitor their vital signs, symptoms, and overall well-being throughout their treatment sessions. Assess for any signs of adverse reactions or complications and intervene promptly to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Chemotherapy Administration: Administer a range of treatments, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, HCT, CAR T-cell therapy, and specialized Hematology procedures.Ensure accurate dosing, adhere to treatment protocols, and monitor patients closely for potential side effects or infusion reactions.
  • Symptom Management: Assess and manage treatment-related symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and peripheral neuropathy. Administer medications, provide comfort measures, and offer supportive care interventions to alleviate symptoms and enhance patient comfort and quality of life.
  • Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families about their oncology treatments, potential side effects, and self-care strategies. Offer guidance on medication management, symptom monitoring, nutrition, hydration, and infection prevention to empower patients to actively participate in their care.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with Oncologists, Nurse Practitioners, Pharmacists, and other members of the healthcare team to develop individualized care plans for patients. Coordinate treatment schedules, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments to ensure seamless continuity of care and optimal treatment outcomes.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and interventions in the electronic medical record. Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, providing timely updates on patient status, treatment response, and any changes in the plan of care.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience, but less than three (3) years related experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Card
  • Experience in Oncology, Hematology, or Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) preferred
