Budget Specialist Location: Elkridge, MD 21075 Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30a-5p Pay rate: $25-$28 per hour Requirements
Works within assigned Work Queues (WQs) and/or other assigned task lists and A/R follow-up systems and reports to identify unpaid insurance claims for collection/appeal. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of insurance information found on Johns Hopkins Managed Care website. Gathers and verifies all information required to produce a"clean claim" including special billing procedures that may be defined by a payor or contract. Reviews patient registration information and completes/updates all missing insurance information within Epic,contacting patient when necessary. Applies applicable discounts/courtesies based on department policy and manager approvals. Confirms credit balances and gathers necessary documentation for processing refund. Identifies insurance issues of primary vs. secondary insurance, coordination of benefits eligibility and any other issue causing non-payment of claims. Contacts payors via website or patient as appropriate for corrective action to resolve issues and receive payment of claims. Assists with basic insurance and third party queries and explains payment policies. Answers questions from patients about billing and refers to JHHS Central Billing Office (CBO) and/or JHHS Patient Financial Services for self-pay balances. Answers incoming calls from patients and provides information to patients, as appropriate and within scope. Routinely checks business office voice mail and returns calls to patients within one business day. Reconciles daily front desk collections, maintaining the CSCM spreadsheet and preparing check receipts for remote deposit [note the practice does not accept on-site cash payments]. On a rotating basis with other JHRP payment posters,is responsible for posting insurance EFT and lockbox payments via cash management in accordance with company guidelines. Qualifications
High school diploma required. Vocational training in insurance billing, and/or referral management desirable. Two to five years of experience in healthcare/medical practice preferred. Knowledge of CPT procedure codes and ICD-9 diagnosis codes required; CPC certification desirable. Knowledge of medical insurance coverage required. Excellent customer relations skills in dealing with multiple publics, including patients, families, other physicians'offices, insurance carriers, co-workers, etc. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a computerCRT, and/or demonstrated willingness to learn computerskills.
