Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as an Senior DBA/Infrastructure Engineer!

About the role
We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and lead cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure solutions. This role requires deep expertise in AWS services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, database optimization, and cost management. The ideal candidate will be hands-on with cloud technologies, improve system reliability and performance, and collaborate with internal collaborators to drive infrastructure perfection.

This role involves migrating workloads to AWS, optimizing cloud resources, implementing robust monitoring, security, and disaster recovery solution, and ensuring system stability through proactive maintenance and on-call support. Candidates must be comfortable participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation and performing monthly weekend server patching.

What you will do



  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-efficient AWS architectures, using services like EC2, ECS, RDS, Lambda, and S3.
  • Architect high-availability and disaster recovery solutions using Multi-AZ deployments, AWS Backup, and cross-region replication.
  • Optimize cloud costs by analyzing usage patterns and eliminating inefficiencies, achieving significant cost savings.
  • Manage networking components, including security groups, Route 53, and load balancers for secure and efficient traffic flow.
  • Migrate EC2 instances and RDS databases across AWS accounts, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
  • Migrate SQL Server databases from on-premises or virtual machines to AWS cloud platforms, using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using AWS CDK, and CloudFormation to streamline deployments.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines with tools like Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions for automated infrastructure provisioning.
  • Monitor production environments using Datadog, Grafana, or CloudWatch, ensuring proactive issue detection and resolution.
  • Optimize AWS RDS, Aurora, and SQL Server databases for high performance, ensuring 99.99% uptime.
  • Work closely with development teams to improve API performance and scalability, integrating Datadog, Grafana, and CloudWatch for real-time monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot database and application performance issues, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Implement observability solutions, reducing troubleshooting time and enhancing proactive issue resolution.

Compensation
Salary Range: $103,300 - $172,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program.

Who You Are



  • 5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or database engineering.
  • Strong SQL Server expertise: Experience managing SQL Server performance, high availability (Always On, Failover Clustering), backup automation, and security standard processes.
  • Experience migrating EC2 instances and RDS databases across AWS accounts, ensuring secure and flawless transactions.
  • Expertise in AWS: Strong hands-on experience with EC2, RDS, ECS, Lambda, S3, IAM, EBS.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) proficiency: Experience with AWS CDK, or CloudFormation.
  • Deep knowledge of database administration: Experience handling SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or NoSQL solutions (e.g., ElastiCache).
  • Automation & Scription: Proficiency in Python, PowerShell or Bash for infrastructure automation.
  • Monitoring & Incident Response: Experience with Datadog, Grafana, xMatter, or CloudWatch for real-time monitoring.
  • Networking & Load Balancing: Proficiency in designing secure, scalable network architectures with load balancers.
  • Cloud Security & Compliance: Understanding of IAM, encryption, least privilege access, and security standard processes in cloud environments.
  • Availability & Maintenance: Must be willing to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and perform monthly weekend server patching.
