Position Description:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Department of Pediatrics - Division of Genetics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the Pediatric Genetics multidisciplinary team in blended setting by providing professional health care to patients and their families by assisting in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of a variety of patient groups within the Genetics clinic practice located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Pediatric Genetics section is committed to providing compassionate clinical care of the highest quality to our patients and to improve the health of the communities we serve. The section is focused on new therapies for genetic disorders, bringing cutting-edge diagnostics in genomic medicine and interdisciplinary care for patients in Wisconsin and through our academic activities to patients nationally. We are actively engaged in the education and development of the next generation of physicians and scientists.

Primary Function/Responsibility:

  • Support the Pediatric Genetics multidisciplinary team in blended setting by providing professional health care to patients and their families by assisting in the diagnostic and therapeutic management of a variety of patient groups within the Genetics clinic practice
  • Works collaboratively as part of the Genetics team to meet the healthcare needs of patients with a variety of genetic disorders.
  • Perform examination of patients and obtains/documents information regarding patient history.
  • Synthesizes and evaluates comprehensive data regarding the individualized patient/family responses along the continuum of care.
  • Establishes differential diagnoses based on the assessment data.
  • Selects and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Establishes appropriate priorities of care.
  • Makes independent judgments and prescribes changes in treatment.
  • Assesses educational needs of patients and families and develops and implements a culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate teaching plan.
  • Writes admission, discharge, and transfer orders under physician supervision.
  • Maintain detailed, legible, and confidential medical records in accordance with established protocol.
  • Acquire and maintain expertise regarding the most current developments and trends in the fields of pediatrics and genetics, through educational programs, in-services, professional associations, and literature.
  • Applies current research findings in own practice; as appropriate develops research proposals, implements proposals, analyzes data, and communicates findings through presentations and publications.
  • Participates in quality improvement efforts and clinical trials as appropriate.
