Position Summary:

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Political Science with an anticipated start date of August 2025. This is a one-year, nine-month position. Pending budgetary approval and satisfactory performance, this position may transition into a tenure track line.

Responsibilities:



  • The primary duty will be teaching undergraduate courses in Political Science with a load of four courses per semester. The courses will include sections of Introduction to American Government, law-related courses, and upper-level courses in their area of specialization.
  • Additionally, the position requires working closely with our Pre-Law students, in advising and mentoring, and prep for law school.
  • The candidate will also be expected to provide mentorship to our Pre-law students and Political Science majors interested in Law or graduate school and to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues in the department.


What You'll Need to Succeed:



  • Ph.D. in Political Science (American Politics/Law). An ABD (all but dissertation) will be considered if the candidate is near completion.
  • A minimum of two years of experience teaching at the undergraduate level and an interest in developing an upper-level course in their area of specialization.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education and an interest in mentoring undergraduate majors and pre-law advising.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
