Overview

This role will lead and innovate in healthcare law, compliance, and system's strategy to support a dynamic, fast-moving organization. This position will drive strategic initiatives and legal services to transform healthcare delivery and operations.

Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership:
    - Provide agile and forward-thinking legal guidance to the system's executive team and Board of Directors.
    - Collaborate on the development and execution of the system's strategic plans and initiatives, focusing on impact and outcomes.
    - Lead legal services for all strategic transactions across clinical, research, and academic areas, enabling rapid, informed decision-making.
  • Governance and Compliance:
    - Advise on institutional governance and support Board and committee operations.
    - Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and laws, providing business-savvy counsel on policies and procedures.
    - Oversee legal and regulatory compliance, including healthcare, research, and employment-related requirements.
  • Risk Management and Growth:
    - Lead the system's risk management programs in collaboration with the Deputy General Counsel/Vice President and Chief Risk Officer.
    - Advise and counsel on risk identification and mitigation, while enabling growth, innovation, and expansion.
    - Oversee the system's insurance portfolio and programs, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation in support of operations and strategic opportunities.
  • Team Leadership:
    - Lead and direct the Office of the General Counsel/Risk Management team.
    - Manage departmental budget and resources.
    - Foster a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement within the legal team.
  • External Engagement:
    - Participate and lead in national, state, and local healthcare-focused legal organizations.
    - Stay informed on trends and bring leadership in innovation to the legal and regulatory environment affecting pediatric hospitals and academic medical centers.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate and 10 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Missouri Bar License, in good standing
  • Proven experience in healthcare law and compliance.
  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.
  • Business-savvy with the ability to drive innovation and transformation in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Forward-thinking with a focus on impact and enabling rapid, informed decision-making.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. Your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.


Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.
