Essential Job Duties |
A Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in Bioactive Phytochemicals and Human Health is open in the laboratory of Dr. M.A. Lila at the Plants for Human Health Institute at North Carolina State University. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will work under the auspices of an
NIH National Institute of Aging grant which includes a clinical trial with a flavonoid intervention, and an exercise intervention. (RO1AG084660).
The successful candidate in this position will focus on the effects of dietary bioactive compounds on metagenomics, metabolomics, and gene expression. S/he will explore in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies to understand the role of phytochemicals in maintaining optimal human health, and work with other team members to elucidate how bioactive principles may activate human gene expression and modulate transcription factors. The candidate will also support the
NIH
NIA clinical trial via interaction with study participants and supervising exercise trials.

Department Required Skills |
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry or Molecular and Cellular Immunology or related field with a strong foundation in nutrition and inflammation
- Knowledge of gene expression techniques, molecular biology, and protein purification and analysis.
- Experience in performing nutrition research in animal models.
- Ability to isolate and characterize phytoactive compounds (bioactive flavonoids and metabolites).
- Ability to collect and analyze data with appropriate statistical methods.
- A strong foundation in interdisciplinary sciences. The candidate will work in a team-centered environment and will assist in training and supervising students and visiting scholars.
