About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding our team and actively looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. Our Nevada Planning Team is looking for a self-motivated Lead Project Manager - Environmental Planning with attention to detail and strong communication skills.

This is a permanent, full-time, salaried position reporting to the Planning Team Lead in Nevada. Remote locations will be considered for the right candidate.

What you will accomplish

You will be responsible for individual and team preparation of environmental impact analyses, providing quality assurance/quality control and leadership during the development of EAs and EISs, and contributing to public and agency outreach. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Write, revise, and manage EAs, EISs, land use plans, and similar documents for various projects and business lines including federal land management, generation, transmission, mining, and others.
  • Manage writing teams and provide technical oversight, guidance, and planning for NEPA document structure and content; public scoping; public comment review and response; and records of decisions and findings of no significant impact.
  • Mentor and train early- and mid-career staff in document preparation and NEPA analysis.
  • Assist in internal NEPA training and leading focus group discussions.
  • Provide expertise and assistance to SWCA project managers on complex NEPA projects.
  • Provide enterprise-level support by contributing to business development pursuits and proposals and supporting growth objectives.
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership behavior and professionalism at the project, office, and regional levels.
  • Drives compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in anthropology, environmental planning, environmental science, or related field.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in environmental consulting that include contributing to complex, multidisciplinary projects; directing project teams including subcontractors; directing staff in the preparation of technical studies and NEPA documents; leading meetings with clients and agencies; and setting and adhering to project budgets and delivery schedules.
  • Three (3) years' experience managing projects and NEPA preparation.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations including NEPA, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and the rescinded Secretarial Order 3355.
  • Working understanding of agency internal processes and procedures and positive existing relationships with federal land management and regulatory agencies such as the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Reclamation, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
  • Demonstrated success in managing, training, mentoring, engaging, and retaining staff.
  • Demonstrated success in managing teams of technical experts and reaching project milestones.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using critical thinking, sound professional judgment, creativity, innovation, logic, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence; attention to detail; and organizational, scheduling, and budget management skills.
  • Applicants must have valid driver's license and be able to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in anthropology, environmental planning, environmental science, or related field.
  • Experience with business development.

An employee in this Nevada-based position can expect an annual salary of $82,992.00 - $109,200.00. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
