Surgical Supply Associate
Materials Services - OR Support
Job Summary The Surgical Supply Associate will be responsible for receiving, distributing, stocking, and replenishing supplies purchased by OR Material Services for use throughout the perioperative areas of UCSF Medical Center.
- Receives supply orders from a variety of UCSF-approved vendors.
- Checks all documentation for accuracy prior to absorbing supplies into par locations and/or inventory locations, and prior to processing packing slips.
- Accounts for all equipment utilized in transporting materials on a daily basis, and reports any missing or damaged equipment to shift supervisor.
- Collects, verifies and returns all receiving documents, noting and shortages, overages, or any other discrepant shipments. Delivers documents to designated point of collection for filing / archiving.
- Forwards and maintains documentation of received goods.
- Maintains all required documentation to support complete and accurate record keeping.
- Under the supervision of the shift supervisor, the surgical supply associate will keep supplies stocked in preassigned perioperative supply areas. Upon completion of initial daily stocking assignment, surgical supply associate will assist departmental coworkers stock their areas as needed.
- Partnering with the departmental surgical supply specialists, surgical supply associate will close the loop on all open issues and review the status of all open orders as needed.
- Utilizes all available resources to complete daily tasks and assignments.
- Corrects transaction errors when they occur, as they arise.
- Performs low and/or empty supply restocks throughout the day. Makes note of supplies that reach critically low levels, and reports back to surgical supply specialist for possible par level adjustments.
- Provides written documentation of issues relating to stocking locations.
- In conjunction with the departmental surgical supply specialists, surgical supply associate will help with the optimization of supply areas. This includes assisting with the reconfiguration of bin and restock locations: adding, removing, relocating, upsizing, downsizing, or any other modification of supply bins and restock locations to support inventory adjustments as needed.
- Create and maintain par forms using standardized departmental template designs.
- Participates in regularly scheduled inventories.
- Ensures all supplies are accurately delivered and placed in proper locations (room, shelf, bin, etc.).
- Verifies that correct supplies and correct quantities are delivered.
- Independently assess overstock for redistribution in other supply areas where and when appropriate.
- Processes returns to the distributor in a timely manner as necessary.
- Rotates stock on hand to avoid expiration.
- Checks supply areas for items nearing date of expiration. Ensures all perioperative supply locations are complaint with all organizational and regulatory policies.
- Helps to keep receiving dock, the receiving and staging areas, the cage area, and all perioperative supply areas clean and organized. Reports any observed maintenance needs to shift supervisor.
- Restocks general supplies in operating rooms.
- Restocks supplies and personal protective equipment in all sub-sterile areas.
- Assists EVS with the replenishment of all perioperative hand soap dispensers, and replaces dispenser batteries as needed.
- Replenishes all laparoscopic supplies in stock locations and in designated laparoscopic and staple carts as needed.
- Receives supply deliveries from a variety of vendors throughout the day, and delivers supplies to locations specified on accompanied paperwork.
- Participates in departmental staff meetings
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $29.63 - $36.99 (Hourly Rate). Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to follow on-screen prompts, word processing, and a basic understanding of networked systems.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to be friendly, courteous, and work in a cooperative manner.
- Ability to safely move heavy supplies and equipment, up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for an eight hour shift, if necessary.
- Able to walk, climb stairs, and sit throughout the shift.
- The ability to learn and understand the principles of aseptic technique, and to apply these principles at all times.
- Minimum one year of inventory management and/or materials handling and restocking experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supply and inventory management experience in the perioperative environment.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Inventory experience in a retail or warehouse environment.
