What you will do:

The Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) Manager will oversee and manage Johnson Controls' (JCI) portfolio of existing investments in early-stage companies as well as identify new opportunities for CVC investment. This role combines strategic oversight, operational support, and financial analysis to drive value creation and maximize returns for JCI. The CVC manager will be part of the Enterprise Strategy and Business Development team and will collaborate closely with business unit presidents, the M&A team, portfolio company executives, external investors and internal stakeholders to ensure the growth and success of the investments and unlock value for Johnson Controls.

How you will do it:

1. Portfolio Oversight:

Monitor the performance of portfolio companies against strategic, operational, and financial objectives.

Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on portfolio health to stakeholders.

Conduct regular reviews of portfolio companies to assess risks, opportunities, and alignment with investment theses.

Systemically manage the overall portfolio, evaluating its composition to ensure diversification and recommending exits or follow-on investments based on strategic objectives and overall portfolio performance

2. Value Creation:

Work closely with portfolio company management teams to develop and execute growth strategies, operational improvements, and market expansion initiatives.

Provide guidance on capital allocation, fundraising strategies, and exit planning.

Assist portfolio companies in navigating challenges, including scaling operations, entering new markets, or addressing talent gaps.

Leverage JCI industry expertise, networks, and resources to support portfolio companies' development.

Drive collaboration between portfolio companies and JCI, ensuring alignment with corporate innovation and business development goals.

3. Investment Analysis and Strategy:

Evaluate follow-on investment opportunities and make recommendations based on company performance , market conditions and alignment with JCI's strategic objectives.

Conduct scenario planning and risk assessments for portfolio companies.

Support due diligence for new investments and contribute to investment committee discussions.

4. Stakeholder Management:

Serve as a primary point of contact between the JCI and portfolio company leadership, facilitating collaboration across business units.

Communicate progress, challenges, and achievements of portfolio companies to internal stakeholders.

Build strong relationships with co-investors, advisors, and industry experts to enhance the value of the portfolio.

5. Exit Planning and Execution:

Collaborate with investee company management and JCI Business, Strategy and M&A teams to define and execute exit strategies for portfolio companies, including M&A, IPOs, or secondary sales.

Prepare exit readiness plans and ensure portfolio companies are well-positioned for value realization.

What we look for:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA or

equivalent advanced degree is preferred.

5+ years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, or a similar field.

Proven track record of working with early-stage companies and driving value creation.

Strong analytical skills with expertise in financial modelling, valuation, and performance metrics.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Deep understanding of early-stage business dynamics, including fundraising, scaling, and market entry strategies.
