The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Reporting to the Executive Director, American Language Program (ALP), the Coordinator, ALP Student Life is responsible for the holistic development of ALP students through the implementation of co-curricular programming, major events, student activities, support services, orientation and guidance. ALP serves 500 students annually with a primary focus on cultural integration into the School, University and community. Responsibilities Student Advising
- Act as primary program advisor to support students' adjustment to the program, the university and to the surrounding community while providing a wider cultural context for language-learning.
- Advise students in matters of health and wellness and refer them to campus resources as needed.
- Maintain student affairs policies and services for the American Language Program.
- Monitor academic performance of ALP students and make referrals to the ALP and the Office of Student Life.
- Advise on withdrawal and registration adjustment procedures. Collect and submit Registration Adjustment and Notice of Withdrawal forms from students leaving the program.
- Assist ALP officers and faculty with ALP student records: data entry, database maintenance, reporting.
- Write enrollment certification letters for sponsors, prospective landlords, DMV offices etc.
- Provide basic advice and support in the area of student immigration regulations and requirements.
- Coordinate the student satisfaction survey at the end of each ALP session and works with the Executive Director to evaluate the feedback and incorporate program updates.
Student Life
- Manage new student intake such as welcome lunch, orientation, campus tours and end of term celebration. Attend weekly/monthly team meetings as designated by Assistant Dean, Student Life (High School Programs and Non-Degree).
- Lead the coordination of ongoing cultural orientation programming to support students in their adjustment to the Program, the University, and to the surrounding culture and community, in order to provide a wider cultural context for language-learning. Plan and executes a program-wide celebration at the end of each fall and spring term.
- Oversee and manage the Language Exchange Program, which connects ALP English language learners with Columbia language learners, for ongoing language practice and cultural/social engagement throughout the fall and spring semesters.
General Responsibilities
- Build a sense of community supporting a living and learning environment.
- Provide direction and information on University policies and procedures.
- Serve as a partner in students' development, liaising with appropriate offices.
- Design, organize, and conduct workshops and trainings relevant to student needs.
- Maintain and publish a calendar of student activities.
- Assist with budget management to ensure timeliness in tracking, spending, and vendor payments.
- Review and revise relevant websites and printed publications program material copy.
- Monitor and respond to inquiries received at the ALP-ADVISING alias email address, referring to other ALP, SPS, or other University officers as appropriate.
- Coordinate with the ALP Executive Director and Assistant Director for Compliance ALP & DSO in course registration of continuing students at seven annual intake periods.
- Assist with walk-in traffic for the ALP office suite and addresses impromptu questions from students in need of advice.
- Manage the ALP Facebook page and respond to prospect inquiries on social media feeds.
- Assist with recruitment efforts for the ALP intensive program.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned or requested. Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required.
- 2 years of related experience.
- A resume and cover letter with salary requirements must be submitted for consideration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, International Education, Intercultural Communication, or related field.
- 2-4 years of related experience in higher education, student affairs, human resources or event planning.
- Experience working with international student populations.
- Second-language learning or overseas study experience.
- Administrative experience in client-centered environments along with some experience in the provision of student services, international student recruitment and/or program administration.
- Proven ability to plan and successfully execute events.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Experience in academic advising and working with non-degree and/or international students.
- Bilingual in an Eastern Asian language preferred

- Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently to carefully manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with short deadlines in a high volume environment.
- Must have excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn SIS, Slate, and other systems, applications and software used by the University and the School.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a mature, professional manner.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekend events.
