The Department's Vision Research Center (VRC) integrates interdisciplinary collaborative research teams from across the UMKC campus and affiliated institutions. The faculty of the VRC focus on developing new treatment strategies to prevent vision loss and restore vision that was lost due to glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration. The Vision Research Center of the School of Medicine seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor with research experience and potential in Ocular Regenerative Medicine. The successful candidate will provide evidence and/or aptitude for externally funded projects focused primarily on regeneration in the field of ocular neuroscience, regenerative genetic therapy science, development and transplantation of bio-artificial ocular tissue, or other retinal cell regenerative medical science. The Assistant/Associate Professor will join a well-known and highly successful team of eye research faculty engaged in pioneering collaborative discoveries. While the primary focus of the appointment will be research centered in the department of Ophthalmology, the tenure home is based in the department of Biomedical Sciences. A tenure-eligible appointment consists of evident success in teaching, externally funded research, and service. Limited courses will be developed and assigned in the department of Biomedical Sciences teaching medical and graduate students. Qualifications
* MD/PhD or PhD (or other doctoral degree) in a field of science relative to research in ocular regenerative medicine * At least 2 years of experience working in a research group focused on eye / vision research * Extensive experience in lab-based experimentation in ocular regenerative medical science, cell-based therapy development or cyto-therapy * Demonstrated success or potential for success in obtaining external funding as Principal Investigator or co-Investigator. * Prior experience or demonstrated ability to teach medical or graduate students. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience and evidence of success in externally funded research. This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) tenure-track faculty appointment eligible for promotion and tenure. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
