The Department of Molecular Biosciences leads in research and education spanning molecular, microbial, cellular, developmental, chemical, plant, structural and systems biology. Exploring the molecular foundations of biology and disease, our faculty include world experts in cell and developmental biology, systems and synthetic biology and structural biology. Our faculty and their teams not only make discoveries that change the world, they leverage these discoveries into state-of-the art courses and training experiences for undergraduate and graduate students as part of our core educational mission.

Purpose

This role for manager within the MBS operations teams plays a critical part in supporting the financial activities of the department with responsibility for monitoring workflows, leading a team of MBS accountants, budgeting, financial reporting, maintaining account records, producing reports and reviewing accounts and fund groups for entry.

Responsibilities

  • Approve and audit documents created by staff related to procurement, travel, payments, fellowships, tuition, and correction documents. Create electronic documents in these areas if needed. Assist Director with maintaining electronic office management and office contact system as needed.

  • Assist in being a financial subject matter expert for the department and perform analysis. Assist with planning for process optimization and implement administrative changes for accounting and business procedures.

  • Provide management, training, hiring, and professional development to the departmental accounting team. Participation in leadership meetings with regular collaboration to analyze and improve existing processes.

  • Assist in managing tracking, analytical reporting, and administrative processes of inventory and annual certification.

  • Assist with responsibilities for all accounting records. Interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state and University policy. Collaborate with Post-Award Grants and Contracts Specialist and HR to produce monthly financial reports and specialized projections for each faculty member.

  • Assist with budget tracking and monthly reconciliation and analysis of departmental accounts. Collaborate with management for special financial reports and projects.

  • Provide backup support for operational team as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field. Five years or more of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting and financial analysis. Supervisory experience. Familiarity with the University's procurement, payment, vouchering, and audit processes. Demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment with little supervision. Demonstrate proficiency in organizing and recording data. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Provide a professional and collaborative demeanor with faculty, staff, students, and other administrative personnel. Ability to work as member of a large and complex team; proven track record of providing exceptional, consistent, and reliable customer service. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word products. Regular and punctual attendance. Relevant experience may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in FRMS and/or DEFINE. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic environment and a commitment to providing excellent customer service. Strong excel and analytical skills.

Salary Range

$72,000+ depending on experience and qualifications.

Flexible between 7am-6pm, M-F
