College COACH Summer Internship: Newborn Medicine Intern

Who we are

The opportunity

The College COACH summer internship is a paid program running from Monday, June 9-Friday, August 8, 2025. In addition to on-the-job training and work experience, the program includes workshops and additional development programs. College students will work 35 hours/week.

The Division of Newborn Medicine is within the Department of Pediatrics, located on Enders 9. My lab has opportunities in cell culture, molecular biology, computational biology, and clinical research. Our lab group is primarily in person and I think a student would benefit from being in person with our lovely team, though understand if occasional hybrid days are needed.

What you'll do

We have weekly lab meetings that everyone attends, where people share their progress and discuss future directions. Manager meets one-on-one with each person every week.

Day to day:

  • intern would work first in a more mentored capacity then increasingly on their own,

  • Working on an independent research project or part of an ongoing project.

  • Job is fully onsite with occasional hybrid days as needed.

What you'll get

  • Our weekly meetings will provide teaching on human genetics, congenital heart disease, and gene regulation.

  • Almost everyone learns to code in R - it's fun and effective! Interns will present their work and will gain skills related to scientific presentations. Most importantly will be their learning on their project - gaining expertise on a topic of interest, developing confidence in scientific inquiry, and acquiring skills relevant to their experiments.

  • Our team has individuals from many different stages of training and most people have lunch together every day so there is ample opportunity to learn about career paths and develop interpersonal skills within a professional setting.

Recruitment process

  • Internship opportunities: We aim to have all summer internship opportunities posted by February 28. They will be posted on a rolling basis as managers determine their availability to host an intern.

  • Resume review & interviews: Applications will be screened, forwarded to managers as appropriate, and interviews will be scheduled.

  • Offer decision: We will follow up within one week of your interview.

  • Onboarding: Those selected for the internship program will complete onboarding by May to ensure a smooth start to the program.
