Join Our Team as an Auto Physical Damage Claim Representative at Selective!

As an Auto Physical Damage Claim Representative at Selective you will play a crucial role in ensuring our customers receive the best service possible. As part of this role, you will manage auto claims from start to finish. You will investigate all claim details by gathering information from insureds, claimants, witnesses, and repair shop personnel to conclude settlement or denial of the claim. As an Auto Physical Damage Claim Rep you will ensure claims are processed within company policies, procedures, and individual's prescribed authority with exceptional standards of performance. You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment, where you will have access to ongoing training and future development opportunities. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

*The preferred candidate will be located near our Charlotte, NC or Richmond, VA offices. Please also note, there is a mandatory onsite two-week training period in our Richmond, VA office which is currently scheduled to start in May 2025.


Responsibilities

  • Gather information by interviewing insureds, claimants and witnesses, reviewing police reports, and evaluating vehicle damage.
  • Analyze information obtained through investigation to evaluate assigned claims to determine the extent of loss and liability.
  • Verify/analyze coverage and determine course of action.
  • Work with claimants, insureds and auto repair shops to settle claims fairly and per regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through empathetic interactions, proactive outreach, and efficient resolution of an insured's request while building trust and rapport.
  • Establish and continuously review reserves and input claim information into the claims management system.
  • Update the claims file on a continual basis to accurately reflect status changes.
  • Document claim files and maintain control of work through documentation or diary system.
  • Review and approve expenses incurred to investigate process and handle a claim.
  • Prepare check requisitions for all loss and expense payments.
  • Direct customer to approved car rental vendor, aggressively manage car rental expenses, set up appropriate inspection and repair assignments, and process immediate removal of total loss vehicles to salvage yard.
  • Close claim by issuing check or denial.
  • Send out appropriate letters based on state regulations and company directives.
  • May handle low complexity, simple property losses.
  • Must be able to drive an automobile to travel within territory.
  • Car travel represents approximately 0-10% of employee's time and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Understanding of Commercial and Personal Automobile policy language and endorsements.
  • Adjuster licenses in states where required (to be obtained within 3 months of hire).
  • Exceptional customer service skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Strong attention to detail and computer proficiency.
  • Must have valid state-issued driver's license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of claim handling experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of relevant or transferable work experience required.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.


Pay Range

USD $41,000.00 - USD $62,000.00 /Yr.
