Job Purpose
This position supports the EHS Manager in monitoring the facility and employees to ensure safe, healthy, and regulatory compliant working conditions. The person would assist in developing and maintaining an effective, proactive accident and injury prevention program. The essential duties and responsibilities include assisting with the following:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Program & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain OSHA-compliant safety programs, including HAZCOM, LOTO, PPE, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, EAP, and Forklift Safety.
- Conduct site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments to mitigate risks.
- Maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for high-risk tasks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA's Lead Standard (29 CFR 1910.1025) through exposure monitoring, medical surveillance, and blood-lead tracking.
- Monitor airborne lead levels and enforce ventilation controls.
- Conduct respiratory fit testing and oversee the respiratory protection program.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory.
- Investigate incidents, perform root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure contractor compliance with company safety policies.
Occupational Health
- Implement lead exposure controls, including engineering solutions, policies, and PPE enforcement.
- Conduct noise monitoring and coordinate audiometric testing.
- Evaluate and improve ventilation systems for air quality compliance.
- Serve as the facility contact for emergency response and fire safety.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Develop and deliver Health & Safety training, including new hire orientation and annual refreshers.
- Lead toolbox talks and engage employees in safety initiatives.
- Facilitate Safety Committee, First Responder teams, and behavioral safety programs.
- Promote a safety culture through collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Act as a liaison between employees and management on Health & Safety concerns.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications;
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification required (or ability to obtain within the first 90 days). Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is a plus
- Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and root cause analysis methodologies
- Ability to conduct industrial hygiene assessments and interpret air sampling results
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, with preference given to those with experience in lead-acid battery production.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds/23 kilos on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
- Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
