The UMKC International Student Affairs Office (ISAO) is accepting applications for a Business Support Specialist. This position leads the daily operations of our International Welcome Center and is a member of the ISAO immigration advising team. The role is a great fit for someone looking for an entry-level position in higher education and/or international education. The best candidates for this position will be detail-oriented and empathetic self-starters with strong verbal and written communication skills.UMKC is currently home to over 1,500 international students from 80+ different countries. Job Description

Key Responsibilities

* Oversees daily Welcome Center operations, answering general inquiries via telephone, email, and walk-ins (in person and via Zoom)
* Maintains office inventory
* Trains IWC student assistants and maintains their work schedule
* Schedules international student appointments with the advising team
* Assists with document collection and review for immigration check-ins each semester
* Provides guidance to UMKC students on ISAO procedures and connecting with other student services
* Advises on basic immigration regulations for maintenance of student visa status

Other Responsibilities

* Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and/or an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for U.S. Department of State - these designations require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency
* Maintains clear and professional communication with students, exchange visitors, UMKC campus partners including faculty and staff, and partners in the greater Kansas City and Missouri communities
* Understands and adheres to U.S. student privacy laws (FERPA)

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree

* International education experience and/or experience living abroad
* Proficiency in a foreign language common to UMKC's international population such as Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Vietnamese, or Spanish
* Experience working with SEVP and USCIS regulations, especially as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
* Strong intercultural communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and/or an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for U.S. Department of State - these designations require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

Anticipated Hiring Range

Up to $18.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
